    When is a 1911, not a 1911?

I was looking at Springfield's new line of faux 1911s called 1911 DS Prodigy. Doublestacked 17+1 or 20+1 9mm starting at US$1499. Ok, maybe it's just me, maybe it's just old guy "you kids get off my lawn" I don't know...but how in all that's good and holy, is this a 1911? How far from the original can they stray and still claim it's a 1911?
It looks like a very nice pistol, not bagging on the product, just the marketing.

    1911 DS Prodigy™ Handguns - Springfield Armory

    Rant complete.
I have a lot more experience than expertise, still have both eyes and most of my fingers though.

That seems to be the optimum, albeit heavy. Used to carry a Para Ord doublestack with a series 70 top end, lovely gun.

Just thinking, if the designer of the 1911 were to have lived longer isn't this where he would have progressed to?

Had Hi Powers, excellent guns. Hi Powers never came out in 45, reluctantly in 40 S&W. They were just too small for the 45.

Certainly a lot easier to reduce the size of a round in a pistol rather than go larger. Did have a Tanfoglio CZ 75 clone double stack .45 though. Have to keep up with recoil springs in this .40 High Power.

I had the .40 Hi Power too. I really liked it. That was before arthritis though. I had to let them all go...

Arthritis is the reason I can't shoot a 45 anymore. Sigh...

Spent a long time turning wrenches for a living. It's catching up with me. Sooner or later it'll be my turn, but not quite yet.
