    #4s in modern RSA service

Saw a picture in last week's Army Times of South African troops on parade with what looked like the late production #4mk2s with the blond color beech stock and #9 bayonets. Not a mar to be seen on any of the wood. Maybe they picked up a load of the Fazakerly's in the wrap? Nice looking rifles.

Didn't S.A. produce their own beech timber for their equivalent of an FTR program?

Lee Enfield - Timeless Classic Rifle - Non Better!

The older I get, the more it's realized how good some things are and can not be improved. A DC-3 twin engine airplane is judged by experts to be a near perfect design. The Lee Enfield, in it's final refinement is a marvelous battle rifle being the finest bolt action military rifle ever made. Though I treasure the M1icon Garand, if push came to shove, in a survival situation, my Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk 1/3 would be taken

Do those rifles look anything like this one?

Do those rifles look anything like this one? This is my SAVAGE No. 4 Mk 1/3 that went through FTR in 1950. When the previous owner acquired this rifle, it was wrapped up in preservative. Looks to be unfired since overhaul. It is one of my front line SHTF defensive weapons.
