Whats more desirable?

I know it comes down to personal preferences..but I have a minty 6.5 late war WRA, damn near new, with cosmoline dried up on it, Id like to trade it for an earlier carbine, or M1 rifle..Im offered a 11-41 British LL era original M1 rifle, GHS gone, sanded but stock dark, P there, rest is early..would you guys keep the minty late war WRA, or trade it for a 1941-43 rifle, or carbine? I like early..

You know what you have with the WRA carbine. A GHS Garand is worth a lot of money but the one you are describing doesn't sound like it would be worth all that much. If the stock is sanded then what else has been done to it would be my question. There could be a lot of what ifs about the GHS. Does it have the original flushnut sight, early uncut op-rod, narrow base gas cylinder, etc? I'd keep the carbine you have. I have a feeling if it is anything like your Underwood, then it's perfect.

In my safe I have an original transitional WRA that is minty as well and also a WRA spring tube that is really nice. I wouldn't get rid of either for anything. Well, the transitional WRA is really my son Jeff's given to him on his birthday by one of my good friends.

Bill, actually the rest of the 11-41 Garand looks good, but without the GHS...value has declined perhaps less than a late war minty WRA carbine?

I'd just wait and save up for another rifle. If you trade off a mint Winchester I think you'll regret it later. JMO

A little bit rubbing with some mineral spirits on a shop rag will get that dried cosmoline right off.

I agree with Bill!! If one thing has been done to that Garand, what else?? Too, you can look at it this way --- How easily could you replace the Winchester if you wanted to?? Not very easily, I would wager!!

Keep the Carbine.....!!! Wait till you can get an untouched Garand, THEN proceed to your decision.

Please keep your untouched Winchester. I found a late Inland a few years ago that I'm sure is unmolested and it's my favorite carbine. I only fired one mag through it and then cleaned it up in detail. I wish it was a Winchester like you have, but I know it hasn't been messed with, the bore measures as new, original finish with very, very little wear.

(I LOVE the milling marks on the original hand guard)
- It's rare to find a hand guard and stock that's never been sanded at all.

When they are unmolested they are rather crude. I have a few handguards like that. One I used to have was so crude I thought someone had made it.
