    Smile x seven digit Colt?

I have a Colt 1913 that apparently was rebuilt at Augusta Arsenal in a lot of 20 guns where the serial numbers were oblterated and replaced with an X seven digit serial number. The pistol is parkerized with all markings intact and sharp. The grips are excellent in condition. It appears to be all Colt parts. Does anyone else own one of these and or knows the history behind them?

I owned a boxed DCM sales pistol like that until about 8 or 10 years ago...I don't remember when I sold it. It was NIB condition after the rebuild. The buyer...that's his favorite shooter now. Shouldn't have sold it.

I personally like the 7-digit X-numbered pistols, and especially with the DCM paperwork showing the serial number to verify it's not a Bubba job, like so many other X-numbered pieces these days.

X2693***? or something like that? All the ones I've seen were the same identical font and style of print. I'd expec yours to be the same. I've seen 4 or 5 of them.

By the way, if it's been re-numbered and refinished, how do you know it's a 1913 Colt?

Thanks for the info. Scott. I can't say exactly when it was manufactured. I am just calling it a Colt 1913 model because that is the last patent date on the slide.
