    M6 M16 Bayonet

A friend of mine has a gun shop/military surplus store and he had received two pallets of what he thought was all M7 (M16 Bayonets). I asked him if he would mind me digging around in them to find one of each manufacture M7 bayonet and he said go for it. I dove right in and examined about 2,500 bayonets and M8/M8A1 scabbords. I found what I was looking for but even more as well. I found an M5 Korean era M1 Garand bayonet, several M4 M1 Carbine bayonets and several M6 M14icon Bayonets. One of the M14 bayonets, and the reason I'm posting, was devoid of it's bayonet lug locking mechanism release and I'm not saying it was missing, it was manufactured without one. The grips where the locking mechanism release should be located on the bayonet are whole indicating they are the original grips and there never was a release mechanism. What did I find?

    M6 Bayonet

Chief-I bought an M5 about 35 yrs ago devoid of all the locking equipment and a solid handle. I believe I have since seen a few M6's set up similarly. Most likely it was a commercial conversion to a trench-type knife from overstock or parts. Did you happen to find any FZR M7's? Any Utica M5's? Leather or plastic M4's? It has been a while since I had a chance to dive into a treasure w/ 2500 bayonets. SKIP
