The earliest ACE followers I have seen were the folded sheet steel ones. I have heard of solid machined steel but have never seen one. Could you post a picture? (Yes, they were better than the zinc cast type.)

The magazine on the left is the original ACE magazine, the middle magazine is the early Service Model Ace magazine with the milled steel follower, and the magazine on the right is the later Service Model Ace with the pot metal follower.
The ACE magazines were used in the early Service Model Ace pistols, and when the construction was changed with the different follower, the base markings were changed to the Service Model Ace.
The second photograph shows the difference in the steel and pot metal follower where it actuates the slide stop. The pot metal follower is slightly bent on this one.

I also have one..it is polished blue on side of slide and the top round is matte. It has the roll mark... conversion unit COLT automatic cal.22 l.r. prancing colt. It also has an EP'd TA19 just above roll mark. It came in a brown wooden box that also has the TA19 marked on it. I am wondering if this is not something that might have been military at one time....it has the fixed sights.

I forgot to mention that the mag is marked P with the prancing colt. COLT .22 L.R. The frame is Essex #220XX and there were some issues with these frames..although many are just fine. Wonder when the frame was made? The slide on this conversion has vertical serrations..about 19 grooves.
