    Good Cop/Bad Cop

I don't mean to stir the pot but I just read the thread about cops and wish to say my piece. In my humble opinion:

    1. Most cops are good people doing a tough job with little or no respect
    2. Unfortunatly there are too many that once they pin on that badge are infected with the {I'm a little god complex} This happens too often in small towns. In my community a normal traffic stop usually has at least 3 cars and up to 6 officers responding. The attitude usually is {You WILL OBEY because I'm an officer of the law}.That is my small community not all.
    3. I treat all officers with the respect they show me. If they are polite I respond in the same manner. If they are not polite I still try to remain polite and ask for their supervisors name and make a report to said supervisor. If they are very impolite I do tend to get short with them and tell them to write the ticket so I can be on my way.
4.I have found that most officers from state police units are very polite and professional the key word being MOST. I have also found that a large percentage of LEO's in small towns seem to have the god complex. It's unfortunate.
    5. Last but not least I wish to thank all the GOOD COPS for a job well done.On the other hand A HUGE SHAME ON YOU goes out to those that should have never had a badge issued to them.

One last note I apologize to all the good cops here for the bashing they did not deserve.

Cops are the same here, and if a cop is vertically challenged, he really gets, the little god complex.

Thank you for your post, but frankly, posters here are some of the most anti LEO folks I've seen on any firearms forum and I've been coming to CSPicon for nearly 10 years.

I realize you started this thread with "I don't mean to stir the pot but . . . ", but anytime you post about cops here that's exactly what you're doing. I am a LEO, but I'm certainly not a cop apologist. In my opinion, it's not cops that are the problem, the problem is symptomatic of what we've allowed our society to develop into, especially our young people. Morals and values and basic ethical conduct have diminished and with them words like duty and honor have lost much of their meaning. We don't teach cops to be bad cops at the academy, they learn it someplace else. As such, cops are just a manifestation of our overall society's diminished moral fiber, but holding positions of authority over others it becomes more obvious. Yes, blame the cops, but remember they are just a reflection of most of you.

    Angry Mr Faulkner, Sir...

... I see you are from Arkansas. I was born and raised in the Russlleville area and know the state very well. My brother in law was a Deputy in Pope County. I can tell you that the small town cops in Ark. are some of best examples of how human skin can be totally wasted.

Ever heard of West Fork Ark. My uncle retired in Fayetteville after 30 years in the Army. He saw combat in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He died several years ago and his funeral was in Fayetteville. He wanted to be buried near his birth place near Mountainburg.

After the funeral service, my handicapped wife had to use the ladies room and we wound up tail end Charlie in the procession down Highway 71. The Trooper leading the caravan drove so fast it was hard to keep up. When we got to West Fork the local cop decided to have some fun and pulled us over. Me in (my stupidity and in my best suit and tie) got out of the car and tried to explain that I was part of the funeral procession. Instead, I wound up handcuffed on the ground in the mud. Another city cop arrives and without any hesitation jerks my wife out of her seat, throws her in the mud (fracturing her shoulder). I am taken to jail and charged with speeding, reckless driving, and resisting. After thousands of dollars (more than 10) in attorney fees and medical bills, the city of West Fork dropped all charges.

Wonder why I don't like cops... NO! Not because of what happened but because you and every other cop I know tells me it was MY fault that it happened.

Well, Red, I am in fact familiar with West Fork. Just between West Fork and Fayetteville is the little no-traffic-light town of Greenville. A couple of years back I got a speeding ticket in West Fork and then about 15 minutes later another one in Greenville. Fact is, I was speeding both times, though I think the posted limit was below what is should have been.

Sorry about your misfortune at the hands of the WFPD. Sounds like a bad deal and based on your version of the story it seems you and your wife were treated inappropriately. Since I've never heard of your plight before I don't see where you can honestly say that I have ever indicated it was your fault. What I will say is that just based on the several posts of yours I've read there is a high probability you have the tendancy, sir, to be a prick to deal with. I tend to treat people with as much respect and courtesy as they will allow me. I suspect dealing with you in a courtious manner might be a challenge, but we really wouldn't know until we encountered one another, would we?

    Exclamation The end!

Well here we go again. I knew when I saw this thread start up where it was going to end. You folks really need to loosen the grip you have around peace officer's throats. I will NOT debate nor will I allow anyone else to debate this "cop" issue here again. I am not going to change your mind, you are not going to change my mind on the issues of being a cop or not.

I am locking this thread because it serves no purpose but to keep controversy going and create animosity between posters on this site. Lets play nice and get on with talking what drives each and everyone of us, GUNS! Let's stay away from what each of us does for a living.
