During the 62 thru 67 National matches competitors were given a plated round as a souvenir that were actually the match production rounds that had been plated and had head stamps like the ammunition being issued. I did not attend the 61 matches and possibly these were made up for the same purpose. The ones I have have 3 holes in the case like a dummy round.

    62 and 63 were a 30/06 by LC, 64 was a 7.62 by LC, 65 was a .45 by RA, and 66 and 67 were 7.62 by LC

This might be the expanation for what you have.

    FA and/or LC NM ammunition...

was always brass-cased. The government has experimented with steel and aluminum for small arms ammunition, but never, so far as I am aware, issued such ammunition for combat use, with the exception of some lots of .45 M1911 and, possibly, .30 carbine. No match ammunition was ever loaded in other-than-brass cases. A photo of the ammunition you saw would be interesting.

Are you sure it's aluminum and not zinc plated? There were rounds that were zinc plated for pressure testing loads at the ammo plants.
