    '03 Springfield (CGN Ad)

I know very little about Springfields yet I can't imagine how this guy can think one and a new barrel is worth $900. Is there something I'm not getting out of the ad?

1903 Springfield 30-06, as issued, in good condition. Reciever 1918, barrel 1944. Barrel bore is black but good and accurate. Likes jacketed bullets, but used mostly as a cast bullet shooter last 20 yrs. Well cared for. Stock is dark, almost black, with some digs. No rust on metal. Also have a 1903 New (surplus) barrel for the above, still in grease, dated 1943 RA. Nice collector rifle and nice shooter. For both items above $900.00 Shipping extra.

I can't see anything in the description that would justify that sort of price. Well, a person can set any price; let's see if it sells.

Bear in mind, the replacement barrel is easily worth $100, maybe as much as $200 to the right buyer. Thus, the gun is really only priced at $700-800.

That being said, if it still had a shootable WW1 era barrel on it, instead of a dark bored WW2 barrel and was otherwise correct and as-issued, it *MIGHT* be woth that much. I doubt it's as issued, as a new barrel generally came with an American arsenal rebuild.

FWIW, going rate in Canadaicon for a decent 03A3 refurb is about $500-550 and I wold suspect an 03 would be similar as there are more of them in Canada, but they are often slightly more sought after to ofset the rarity difference.

With the barrel I would expect to pay no more than about $600 personally as you have to factor gunsmith labor to change it out if you want to go that route. Also, I'd want to know if it's really a multi-groove 1903 barel, or a 2-groove late pattern 1903A3 barrel, as the latter isn't really arsenal correct for a 1903 refurb, though it can be made to work.
