    Refinished Jungle Carbine

I acquired a Jungle Carbine last year at a local pawn shop for $150. It was in pretty sad shape and since someone had drilled and tapped it for a scope I figured I couldn't hurt it by attempting to refinish it. I have reblued guns and refinished stocks before, but had never tried parkerizing. So, this was my first attempt.

I got a nice medium grey color (not sure if that was close to the original) and overall it is pretty consistent. It actually looks lighter in the photos that in person because I had to use flash.

Now that it looks better I can't wait to fire it.

You ought to strip it now Hank and paint it black to be an authentic Britishicon finish. Then, when you've done that, pack the fore-end, handguard and butt, and the associated steel parts with a thick grease. Don't forget to include the stock bolt too

I was wondering, looking at Daveboy's result, what other options could have been considered. (the effort and time spent for a home park job is appreciated, Daveboy, don't get me wrong, it shows you took your time). But let's see what could also have been available as far as options go.

Peter, what type of paint would could have been proposed, would it be available of the shelf? Would the metal require to be totally stripped, bare?

From my industry days, a phosphate finish(parkerizing) was used something like a primer, it helped the paint to stick. General Motors required it on all painted zinc(pot metal) parts.

The closest painted finish I have found in the USAicon to match the Britishicon Suncorite paint finish is alumahyde matt black from Brownells

Well done daveboy! I must get one of those carbines some day. I would agree that black paint over the phos would finish off the look of it and provide the most durable finish.

I think the park looks fine. The stock finish looks great.

To satisfy the purests of the board, that parkerizing would be a perfect base for Duracoat. It comes in several different "blacks".

This would also be the perfect time to plug those holes permanently. Fill the holes with new plugs, with the slots above the metal line. Red loctited in place. Filed flush. Then Durafill will blend and cover the plugs on both sides. Then Duracoat "HK Black" over that.
