    Nice scabbard, expensive,

One of the nicest I've seen, but over $600! I'll have to be happy with my $150 version that shows more wear and minus straps.

They are somewhat hard to find and not in everyone's collection but over $600 does seem high. One sold a few months ago in the $450 range. Been in this too long I guess, bought mine at Pomona in 1988 or 89 and they were about $100/$125 mint then.

    Price is always upward

This is the best I've had a chance to look at in the past several years.

Last gunshow in Kansas City had one that was "well worn" and missing parts. The dealer wanted $375 .... take it or leave it. So $600 may be steep, but where else do you find one that is as in good a condition?

I agree, these things are very uncommon in this kind of shape. You will see a FEW at gun shows with the straps cut off, and well used, but almost never in this condition... I paid $400. for one in decent shape, with straps, several years ago, and was happy to get it.

If I had a jeep looking for a scabbard, I would have paid 1K for it. It is the nicest I have seen.

    M1 Carbine scabbard

My first post & first time to get a feel for the potential worth of an M1icon Carbine jeep scabbard. Bought mine umpteen years ago from a milsurp outfit in Oklahoma. I used it for the first time when I moved from California to Arizona in '01 to transport my unrefurbished M1 Carbine. Not used since; verdigris on the rivets; all straps, never opened but need some neet's foot oil as some have dried out in the Arizona southern high desert. It is marked in three lines: J.O.M.D. 1944 E.N.S. Larger US to left of these stacked markings.

Regarding the carbine: I assume it is unrefurbished as it matches the description of such by Bruce Canfield in a recent American Rifleman article. I acquired it from a vet in 1946-47. It was in new condition then. Now, after many dead rabbits it has dents in the stock and finish wear where I carried it. I have reached advanced geezerhood and want to leave it to my son. If there is anyone out there who would be willing to take the time to give me a range of potential values for the piece I would supply any further details concerning it. Incidentally it retains the original oil tube and sling, the latter, like the scabbard straps, never having been extended.

Your carbine sounds interesting vickers. Can you post some close-up photos of it showing barrel band, rear sight, and any markings you can see?
