Hello all, my first post on this excellent forum. I was able to get some milsurp 8mm today from a friend at a great price. The ammo is on stripper clips and a picture is attached. I am assuming it may be Turkish and made in 1940 due to the star in a crescent in the head stamp. I will also assume it is corrosive. Any info from knowledgeable folks would be greatly appreciated. it is Turkish. it is 1940 made. it is corrosive. not much more to say really.
Thanks for the reply. The Turkish part was really a guess. Nice to have it verified, and with a smiley too. I'm pretty new to Mausers and have a Yugo M48 and a Czech redone in 7.62 by the Israelis. Appreciate the help.

Whats the bullet weight, 154gr or 198gr? i have some of the 154gr Turk stuff w/1940 date and it's plain lead core with a cupro-nickel jacket. I once weighed 10 bullets and the charges, bullets weighed 153-155 gr. Can't remember the charge weight but it was'nt consistant either, well as I remember it varied by about a grain from one to the next but it's quite accurate nonetheless. Never had any of the 198gr.
It would appear that these are 155 gr. based on the info from this web site (thank you Google).

I've read somewhere that you do NOT, if you are so fortunate to own a machine gun in 8mm, want to use this. Supposedly there is a special Turkish round for MGs but the rifle rounds are not suitable for that. Anyone know if there is any truth to this?
they are the Turk copy of the German WWI GEW98 ammunition. Hot loaded, with a 154/155 bullet. Moves right around 2900fps. I like to pull the bullet and reduce the load to 45 grains and re-seat the bullet. Vey nice load.
