1911-A1 functioning problem

I have a 1911-A1 that began to act up (seize). The slide began to not close completely/not at all. I disassembled it and found that the lug had increased in width and was causing the problem. I filed the slight flange that was forming and things went back to normal I do not use warm loads; casts in fact...the RCBS 225 grain RN with 4.0 grains of Red Dot, but it appears that some "battering" was taking place. What is the recommended remedy for treating this? A stiffer recoil spring or a "buffer"? Is it a commonplace occurrence with 1911's? Thanks for any advice. J. Cooper

Springs do wear out. How long since you replaced the recoil spring?

I had a 1911A1 that wouldn't close after firing. I replaced the spring and that was solved, I've used a buffer for years and never had any problems.

As pointed out it may be as simple as needing a fresh spring. If it is just a shooter, you may want to up the poundage or install an EGW oversize firing pin stop. Its square rear edge (rounded) will alter the cycle rate and distribute more of the recoil impulse to the MS.
