SMLE magazine cleaning.
This is my Lee-Enfield SMLE. Straight from the queen's arse..nal Since it was dated 1918, I suspect the Kaiser surrendered because this rifle was created. Probably sat in England's reserve until they decided to sell it to America for a bit of change. No Arabic or Indian markings of any kind.
It's in pretty good condition, save for light dings and a right good stock crack just behind the trigger. Shoots good, but it does cause rounds to tumble. Rifling looks good so  I really really like shooting this rifle.
Anyways, I am posting this because I am wondering how to clean the magazine. I can't really get into it. I hear you are supposed to push the back until the front pops out but it does not look like it was made that way. SMLE owners help!

That's right, just push the back down and get hold of the front and lift. It'll come out.

I eventually got this to work a week ago. It helps if you keep the spring compressed against the side or it will keep nudging itself into an oblong position. I am glad I finally got to it though. It was in dire need of a cleaning!
Oh also, the rifle shoots PPU ammunition perfectly straight. I either blame my ammunition or my targets from last time. Probably was my target.

You'll develop a knack to doing this after a couple of tries. You shouldn't have to do it too often, take care you don't break the mag spring at the follower.
