Found something in the stock of my Garand

Hello everyone. I have had my Garand since 2009, and it has always had a new production stock. It looked very nice, but I decided to make more correct by putting it in a USGI stock. I found one on Dupage and got it today. I looked in through the cleaning tool storage in the stock and noticed a wad pushed way back. I was able to fish it out with a cleaning rod, and it turned out to be a pouch with two cleaning patches. It is very old. It has that very old musty antique smell to it. Makes you wonder if it could really be from thag era, pushed in there by whoever used it. Definately not a huge find, but interesting.

The cleaning rod came in that canvas sleeve, the GI pushed it into his stock. When he used it, he just pulled the rod sections out and left the sleeve, it stuck.

That actually makes sense. I have one of those canvas pouches with the rods, and it always for some reason manages to make its way to the very back and gets waded up.

Throw it in the wash machine with work clothing and lay it out to dry...all flattened out. It'll be just like new.

I dont think it will survive in the wash..it seems pretty brittle. I put it in a plastic sandwich bag for now.

The last time I found anything in an M1 stock I found a whole bunch of bits of rubble.This was in a well used WRA stock.

I also found an M14 oiler and some patches in another,I think it was a GAW stock???

I have placed a colour printout of a scan of my CMP Certificate of Authenticity for my M1D in my M1D butt. Too often, people settling estates have no idea there is paperwork to go with rifles.
