Anybody know what this is? It's from a friend who had some milsurp stuff kicking around. I've searched the interwebs to no avail thus far, trying to get an idea of when it's from and what it was for.

Looks like a simple field map and brief case.
It looks big from here. My guess is it might be a case for an artillery plotting board and sundry items. Again, that is only a guess.
Added: I just noticed the flapped long slot pocket shown in the photo of the back of the case. That might fit a long slide rule (The pre-electronic, pre-digital, manual, analog calculator - remember them?), or a long plotting rule.

having 4 buckles also point to something heavy, aka a plotting table.
Do you think it's WWII vintage? I'd like to move this bag and another one like it along at an upcoming show, but have no idea as to valuation. Thanks!
