WWI US Collar Disks

I wanted to get collar disks to go with my WWI tunic so I did my usual eBay scanning and picked up these and a US disk in a separate auction. These are not all WWI disks, the two middle ones are early 20's and the bottom one is late 20's.

I believe the top left has something to do with mules. Mule skinners, transport, I don't know. I've found one other on the net but no real information on it. Probably not a very common one.

It is very tempting to start collecting these but I'm thinking i better steer clear. I collect too many things already.

Working on a mockup of a WWI tunic to match the one in the photo of my grandfather.
Quartermaster corporal patch is all I lack.

Like the insignia collecting. Relatively inexpensive and do not take much room.

P.S. You can't collect to much if you want to keep up with me.

Do not have the original but found a really nice facsimile locally. I just need to add the insignia. The hat cord is the only original piece that was passed on to me. I will post photos when completed.

It is kind of nice to have at least one original item owned by my grandfather whom I never met.

Did he survive WW1 and, if he did, hopefully he wasn't too scarred, mentally or physically?

America did make a valuable contribution to ending WW1 in victory for the allies in 1918.

I can be very sentimental sometimes. My grandfathers both died young. I met both of them and remember both, one fondly, the other not so much. The first died when I was 16-18, not exactly sure of the timeframe and we did a lot of things together. Hunting, fishing, outdoors stuff. The other died when I was maybe 6, he had black lung, smoked constantly, lived in a dark room watching TV and basically scared me for all of the above.

My uncle, the only son of the grandfather I liked never got along with his dad so he didn't want any of his stuff except his guns, he did oddly enough keep a mounted deer head which I was hoping to get. But all his other odds and ends which I consider significant like the hat he wore on Sundays found their way to me. Neither served in the military but my fave was in the CCC so I'm always looking for CCC stuff.

So I get the importance of the connection. Just having the photo is awesome. I have only one photo of my grandfather. I'll probably get a few more once my parents pass on but for now, I just have the one. It's significant to me because I come from the hunting culture more than the military one. I do have a mounted deer head shot by my great grandfather in 1936. Has a 26" spread.

He survived without a mark. Spent all his time at Camp Pike Arkansas and never made it "Over there". He did die before I was born.

It seems sentimentality only lasts a generation or two. I fear my efforts to preserve my family's military heritage is for naught. Look for some great deals at the garage sale post my passing.


Nice photo 1970s?

1975. The five of us went in 2 maybe 3 different vehicles but for reasons I don't remember we put all three deer in a VW bug with my dad, sister and I inside. Two in the front trunk with their heads hanging out opposite sides and one on the roof rack. I wish we had taken a photo of that.

1975, five of us came in from deer hunting in a rented LTD, two deer on the now caved in roof. The whole thing smelled of field and blood... Rental company was not impressed. Try any of that now days.
