New Acquisition

I just acquired a No. 1, Mk III* Enfield rifle from 1917.

It is interesting to compare this to my No. 1, Mk III BSA rifle from 1923:

Apparently, sometime in its history this rifle had been rebuilt at Isaphore. Notice both the strap and the fore-end screw.

Reading the serial number was difficult as someone stamped "England" right over it. Other than that, the rifle looks good with a decent looking bore.

Beautiful rifles both. I especially appreciate WWI dated rifles, if only they could speak.

The Indian forend is off of a DP rifle. It's been cut back at the front of the body for a big hole drilled all the way across trough the barrel and body.

Now I see what you mean, yes I remember those transverse drilled rifles. About a half inch hole. So this is a parts rifle...

I would at least patch the sides of the forend before assembling a decent rifle into DP woodwork. It's a dead giveaway that it's been restocked post service.

As I said, the bore is excellent. Head space passes the field gauge.
