Elevation Pinion Disassembly

Guys,

Dad and I are preparing to build an M1 kit onto a CMP receiver. I'd like to park the parts before assembly and I'm concerned with the elevation pinion. Is there a way to disassemble it so we don't have a pinion full of aluminum oxide when we're finished? Looks like the washer is sort of staked into the pinion knob. I have the pinion out of the receiver, I'm talking about removing the knob, washer, and pinion shaft from each other.

FYI, kit is probably a Dane return with receiver twisted off in Canada. Mix of PB, BMP, and USGI. Barrel is a Beretta but the muzzle is hogged out. Replacing with a Criterion from CMP, which I guess is parked (it IS park, right?). We'll restock in some new lumber and use it for local JCG matches.

The Criterion barrels I saw at the North Store were NOT Parkerized. I'm not sure what you mean by "aluminum oxide", but I parkerize the entire pinion assembly. It is too hard to dissasemble. If you are installing a Criterion barrel on a mixmaster why would you worry if the pinion shaft is Parkerized?

The elevation pinion is not intended to be disassembled. Just drop the whole thing in the Park tank. It'll be fine.

The CMP E-Store description says Criterion barrels are Parked; mine was.

Maybe I'll try to park the pinion assembly without blasting it. If it doesn't take to my satisfaction I'll blast and repeat. But I'll not take it apart.

Why NOT reparkerize a mixmaster with a criterion? I parkerized a Mossberg 20 gage bolt action shotgun. When one does it themselves there is little reason to not park a kit built rifle. In fact, I'd probably only park it because it's a mixmaster kit. If it was original I'd leave it alone.

My criterion is not in the white but I'm wondering if it's park or black oxide. I'll likely leave it alone. Whatever it is it's certainly dark enough. I'm not all fussy about every piece matching in color.
