Hi - hope you can help. I'm looking at a #5 Mark 1 Jungle Carbine with the following on the the barrel just forward of the stock. "303 2222 5 185" Do any of you recognize this?
Any idea of pricing on unissued examples?
Thanks -

Well, I think some of the numbers refer to the following, although a pic would help ... :)
"BNP" ".303" "2.22" on barrel and under that is either "18.5 or 18+ or 184 TONS" .... means that your rifle was tested for safety by Birmingham Proof House showing caliber and chamber length. As required by British law, any firearm offered for commercial sale (regardless of military proofing) has to undergo a pressure test. Passed firearms were stamped, usually on the barrel and receiver.
"NP" was the Birmingham Nitro Proof between 1912 and 1954 and "BNP" is the Birmingham Nitro Proof after 1954
"England" is sometimes seen on Enfield rifles and it's the British private export mark pre-1968

Thanks for the quick response.
Williamb,
Pricing varies greatly depending on where you are on this planet. I'm in Canada, and currently typical Jungles will sell from between $250 and $500 usually; maybe a bit more for the pristine ones.
I don't know about the market in other countries (or other planets for that matter).
Lou
England would be £400 - £600 or in Yankee dollars $600-$900
2.22 is the length of the shell casing the bore is sized for.
Thank you, I have similar marking on my rifle and appreciate the info!
mine says:
.303 (no space)2.22"
NP 18+- TONS
