Haha sometimes you just get what you pay for ;)

The screw was tightened, but even with the sight protector removed, the stock does not clear the front sight.

I just looked at where the mainscrew lines up with the stock and it too does not line up, the stock sits too far forward.

Theres not much meat to remove off the tail of the stock to back things up... without removing the strap and relocating it... unless im missing something!!

Something's out of whack, can you show us a comprehensive pic of the whole thing? Small pics don't help...

it might be worth comparing the barrel length from nocksform to muzzle with other examples incase someone has set the barrel back a turn or two.

It looks like the foresight block is too far back...….the main screw will be lined up when the forewood is located correctly.

I agree with muffet, the front sight block should be farther forward. Also check that you have a No 4 Mk 1 stock that has been milled for the bolt release.

Remove the front sight block from the barrel. See if the groove for the cross pin has been modified? or maybe it's missing altogether. I see part of the guide boss exposed in pic#2. Barrel length could also be an issue. Measure it against an known Enfield you have. Lastly I'd check the stock against a known one. IF 1st and 2nd checks are OK it's in the stock. Can move the metal end cap back to get the desired clearance. Don't muck around with the action. Ron (Canada)

I too thought the block was too rear ward but it lines up flush with the barrel lug.

I will measure and check for compatibility.

Yup. The crosspin may need to be relocated...

Before I dove to far down the rabbit hole I decided to try the stock on another one of my no.4's.
Same problem. Even the receiver contours wont fit. It seems the stock is too long at the back end as it fits too far forward everwhere else.

Luckily I have another set on a rifle Im not using, so its going to donate its furniture for the greater good!

I quickly test fit the donated wood and it fits tightly in the draws and theres a tiny gap between front sight and nose of the stock. So far so good!
