L59A1 DP Rifle (by Peter Laidler)

I am a little slow to respond, I flew to Florida for the weekend for my Grandfathers 90th surprise birthday party :beerchug:. I was all ears when he told a couple of WWII stories (he never talked about it much), he has two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star (Sorry this is off topic, but I had to brag a little).

Now, back to the topic! It looks as if this thread has peaked some interest. Before I left for Florida, there was one for sale on a site that was reposted several times. Now that this topic has been posted, the rifle has been purchased. I believe the seller was asking $150.00 and would only ship to an FFL.

I attached a pic of the buttstock, what is the story behind the green tape?

Army Cadet Force detachments often mark their rifles (often with coloured stripes) so as to be more easily recognised when they are mixing with other detachments in their Group or County. For example at Annual Camp. So that may be the reason for the tape.

It looks like MOD issue insulation tape, I've got a role in the garage I think.

As much as I hate resurecting dead threads, I feel compelled to do this. Peter asked if anyone here in the States had a L59A1 in their collections; I do in fact have one and photos of mine can be seen here:

Contrary to what I stated in one of the comments, brain-fart, mine was also purchased from Navy Arms for a ridiculously cheap price of about $28. I happened to find the magazine ad several months ago as I was paging thru some old magazines. It was sold as a non-gun so I was legally able to make the purchase. This morning I was doing additional research on the L59's and saw where one particular auction sold anL59 for $475. Two others in different aucions sold for $175 and $200. Quite a price range; $175 to $475. I have mine and will give it a place of homor in my Enfield collection.
