The Arg. 91 I have had for close to 50 years has been modified over the years. When first bought using the iron sights it would shoot as well as could be expected with the issue trype sights, pretty much into 2 inches at 100 yards. I had young eyes back then and could see pretty good. Later in it's life with me it was re-stocked with a Bishop stock the bolt altered a low swing Buehler type safety added as well as drilled and tapped for Buehler one piece mount and rings. Later I had a longer S.J.G. barrel fitted and then had it cut down to 24 inches and re-crowned with a match type crown and if I remember right it is 8 degrees. It sports a Leupold 4X M8 (I think thats the number). This rifle has accounted for "lots" of game and vermin in it's life. To say these rifles in 7.65 are a good combo is a under statement, they are in fact excellent.
I have loaded for this rifle almost since I bought it. When I bought this rifle I paid around 30 dollars for the rifle a sling and 2 boxes of ammo, one box of ball ammo and a box of 150 gr Norma soft points for hunting. The first time I hunted deer with this rifle was with my grandpa Leonard and the first shot laid out a lion (bounty in those days) later my first deer. At this time my hunting load is a 150 gr Sierra spitzer using a reformed case a CCI250 primer 43.2 gr. of Varget and seated to 2.905 OAL. This load will shoot inside 1 inch and closer to 3/4 inch 3 shot groups from this rifle, it could do better if I could do better but at this stage of the game I'm pleased with this. This same load but using a Norma bullet will shoot a tiny bit larger, still close to the 1 inch mark so it could just be me. A load using the same except 39.5 gr. of Varget with a Sierra 180 gr spitzer seated to 2.900 will go close to the 1 inch mark and when I say close I mean close. What ever you do don't give up on that 91 it's a darn fine rifle. Remember these loads were developed for my rifle, you must work your own loads up for your rifle. I will start to work up loads using the new Barns Tripple Shock all copper slugs, ought to be interesting to say the least.
