Got it...I never went to Bisley.

wouldn't there be a need for some sort of support at the rear of the rifle? seems ther would be alot of strain or load on the front of the rifle. something you would not want on you competition tuned rifle. brownells sells similar equipment currently that theoreticaly performs the same function but exicution is different. point being that rifle is supported at both ends.

And of course it would only fit a square tent pole, unlike the Bisley Vise.

If the round pole fit inside that clamp, it would hold. I don't believe that's what it's for though.

At least once source advised 'never clamp the forend, only the butt'

I think we need someone with a collection of old PH catalogues to give us the answer. I have a few so will see I can find the answer

And presumably with the forend supported so that the weight of the rifle doesn't hang on the butt socket.

Speaking of vises, here's an old photo.

Pics like that had to be posed for ages to work...he stood with that rifle half in the chest for a space age before he could finish. Imagine that...brand new Lee Metfords...NEW!
