The Royal Navy also use to have cigarette rations which were duty free but you were not allowed to resell them. Looking on the net just now I was surprised to see that this only ended as recently as 1989.Quote:

My last C-rations would have been late 80's. MRE's started to get to our levels mid 80's but they were still a novelty. I seem to remember tiny packs of maybe two or four cigarettes per ration. I never smoked but gave them to someone else or threw them away.
