Simon
What a great service I can see that it is keeping you busy.
I have the following
L42A1 T35468
L39A1 A952
Enforcer 228
Envoy E139
I have included the Envoy serial number just in case your sources also cover this. Any information you have will be most greatfully accepted.
Kindest regards Chris....
Has anybody heard back from Simon?
Last year I posted the following.
I have L42A1 S/N K34325. It has chordal rifling with action and barrel dated 1974. All written material I have come across indicates that only rifles from the 1980 batch have chordal rifling. I would be very keen for any L42 owners especially those with post 1971 dated actions to take the top wood off and advise the date on both the action and barrel. I am interested in finding out more about when the chordal barrels were manufactured and then fitted to actions.
Many thanks
Graeme
I note more posts from L42A1 owners since. Help please- can you please let me know if your rifle is dated after 1971 and if so please advise the date on the action and barrel 9you may have to take off the top wood to find it) the type of rifling ie Enfield or chordal and the number of grooves.
Many thanks

Hi all
Can anyone point me in the right direction as I am wanting to purchase and import to New Zealand the following L39A1, L59A1, .22 Short rifle pattern 18 and a .22 No 7.
Also wanted are a scout scope and slings both leather and nylon for a No4 T and a L42A1
Many thanks in advance
Graeme
any information on enforcer no.274
Have you read the ongoing previous threads regarding Enforcers first..........................?
Simon can you please check this rifle for me, not sure if it is an experimental, or maybe my imagination that it is real. it is a 1944 M47C has No4 MkI T 66 on the side of the reciever. the serial number is 30608
I would tread with caution, Thunderbox On the Enfield forum has probably handled a few more than most, would PM him and regarding the number 274, send PM to Alan-de-Enfield, he may have the info behind it and which force it belonged too.
I have some strong views on some Enforcer,s, and would stay away from anything that does not have straight lettering on a flat sided action.
Hi Simon,
I have Envoy No278 manufacture stamped EFD69. Top of receiver is also stamped 'Regulated by Fultons' from whom I purchaced it. Would like to no more about the rifle's past if that's possible. Many thanks in advance.

I wonder if Longbow and me are the only two with known consecutive serial numbers. M-37026 and M-37027. Mine was from the sniper division at Warminster and never went into commercial hands
Dear Simon,
thank you for your information and time of course.

Welcome Back Simon! Thanks for your time! Very much appreciated.
G'day Simon,
I have been directed to your forum as I am trying to find the histiry of my Enforcer serial No 400. I recently purchased it from the UK and imported it to Australia. Can you help.

"Updates and Revisions" (Sorry- it's an inside joke...)
A sharp eyed and appparently relentless researcher has notified me that one of my rifles has been recorded on this thread with an incorrect prefix letter. And he seems to be correct!

Make that first character a "C", not a "G". (BAD overstamp during a rebuild it seems)
Whoops! On several folks' part on multiple occasions.
I invite the fine, observant fellow to step forward and ID himself. I shan't give him up without permission.
So if the serial number is prefixed with a C what is the name of the signatory on the label ?Quote:

Perhaps Simon could tell us if C31808 is on his list, Also is the bolt or woodwork numbered and with what number?
Just for ease of reference, the rifle with the confusing S/N prefix can be found in several photos on the below thread (if the link works, just click on it- I'm using an antiquated IE6 computer right now, so...):

Thanks Simon, what is the referrance source you have?

Many thanks Simon for your response. Have checked the number on the fore wood, in pencil under the hand guard, on the mount and on the butt socket they are all K 34325. The action is dated '74. Regards Graeme
Hi Simon - nice to see you back in action again.
Enforcer 301 - (think it was Manchester just checking)
Does anyone know if Enforcer 382 is still in existence? I'd like to know which force it went to.
Thanks
Does your list indicate that some of the L42 serial numbers of the early era have been issued from Enfield to Donnington and/or The School of Infantry Warminster twice? Or does our MoD TOC list differ from yours (TOC: taken on charge)
Hi Simon,
Don't know if you're still working on this.
I have Enforcer No: 109, be grateful for any info you may have,
Thanks,
Daryl
Rifle 301 was shipped to Manchester Plod on the 29th April 1975.
Rifle 382, if indeed it still exists, is recorded as being shipped to "Scottish Police" on 10th December 1974.

Simon.

Hi Simon
I've got a chance of getting Enforcer No. 231. Any idea which police force it was with or any information you may have will be appreciated.
Regards
Mike
ORIGINAL Bipod.......... did Enforcers come with a bipod as original Simon?
Peter,
All the information and data I've seen indicates that the Enforcer WAS NOT issued with a bipod as original. I've seen numerous rifles with the later addition of a sling swivel stud to allow the use of a Harris type bipod but that's all.
As with all things Enfield though the Caveat is "Never say Never" perhaps others have more info?.
Cheers,
Simon.
Any comments on whether the bipod was an original fitting .303 collector?. Not a point to loose sleep about but I didn't think that a bipod was an original fitting either
Bipods are not mentioned in the original parts list or drawings, perhaps Parker Hale were asked to fit them at a later point.
Parker Hale were the importers of Harris bipods at the time of the Enforcers, (1973 onwards), they also suplied the Pecar scope, mounts and target sights to Enfield!
Hi Simon
Thanks for the information
Regards
Mike
Enfield disputed with several Police forces the appearance of one or two bulges appearing in the chambers of Enforcers where the front mount screws weakened the chamber. Enfield blamed that on P-H or........ well, anyone else!
Me again. Any idea regarding the history of Enforcer 071?
As for bipods, the RSAF Enforcer brochure does not show or mention a bipod, and I do not see any comments about bipods in the final specification (information taken from Mark Stevens website - http://www.amstevens.fsnet.co.uk/)
Thanks most kindly, Simon. Any idea regarding Enforcer 722? I am helping out a friend who is totally confused as to what he has.
Thank you, Simon, that is what I expected to hear - I will pass on the bad news. Enforcer 071 appears to have the forend to enforcer 722 fitted, so who knows what is going on with it.
Sorry I seem to have confused matters when I said Enforcer 095 had its original bi-pod.
A friend purchased all Sussex Enforcers and Envoys in 1986 and I still have 1 Sussex Enforcer 232 and two Envoys E320 and E389. My friend was a Sussex Police sniper in the 1970's and 1980's and he says they are still as they were first issued to them. The Enforcer has a Parker Hale bi-pod with narrow rubber feet unlike the modern ones which have larger feet. When I got Enforcer 095 (Gwent Police) it had the same bi-pod as the Sussex Enforcer so I just assumed that they all came like that and was original.
Just to confuse matters even more the Sussex Envoy snipers were all fitted with bren gun
bi-pods. Both of mine still have them.
My friends rifle for 15 years was Envoy E320 and the Enforcer was used by his mate, both were kept at Bexhill Police Station.
Prior to the Envoys which were delivered before the Enforcers Sussex used Long Lee's with
open sights.
303 collector,
Can you post pics please? Especially the one with the bren feet. Thank you

Apparently, Charnwood have destroyed their records so difficult to trace unless it went through another dealer first! I have also read that other dealers had pickings from Enfield at the same time as Charnwood!
Police snipers 303 collector........... The only snipers are those who have been through the Army snipers course. Good shots, yes. But snipers, most definately NO.
My understanding (from talking with a couple of Police Armourers) was that the Enforcer was available as a 'bare-rifle' with options for the PH5E4, Pecar Scope + Mounts and bipod.
Depending on the availability of Budgets at the time it was not unknown for a 'bare-rifle' to be purchased and the 'extras' added when the next years budget became available.
One Police Force (armourer) did not rate the Pecar scopes so he always ordered the rifles 'scopeless' and installed his favourite brand.
All of the (allegedly) original Bipod mounted Enforcers I have seen, (or had photos of) have the 'original' 1970's "skinny leg" bipod.
Pic of the 'skinny' bipod

hi, owned 322 for approx 15 years would be nice to know if any records exist on it.
regards
I'm guessing that you purchased No322 at Auction in 1998
Many thanks, nice to know where it started, it's a bit different to the normal spec, it's fitted with a forend similar to a Parker Hale T4, but professionally numbered 322 + the barrel is heavier with no provision for a front sight, all this is at least 15 years old, until my research on the web I assumed they all looked like mine! All the usual parts are numbered 322,the no. on the reciever is the flat type, no millings, the scope is 289. It was purchased from a RFD in South Wales he is also a Sporting Gun Auctioneer.
Any more info or photos I'll be happy to supply

Hi Simon.
New members first post, picking up a Enfield Envoy this weekend, serial number E405
I know it's been owned by the same person since 1971 and still has the accuracy card with it. Very interested in any more info.
Thanks.
Simon,
7.62m/m L39A1
UE 69 A 425
I bought this in 1994 - $295 + tax; wish I had bought an L42 at the same time. It came with issue rear sight; a British friend of mine from Iraq (his mane was Simon also) was able to find me an A.J Parker TZ4/47 sight calibrated in 7.62mm. It didn't appear to have been used much if any. Very accurate with any ammo I feed it. Appreciate anything more I can learn about it.
Thanks
Rick

Hi Simon
Thanks very much for your help and information - its a great service you offer

Thank you Simon for the info, it would seem the original owner bought it from Fultons Bisley England late May 1971 and used it in many competitions at Bisley winning several over the years.

Hello Fellow Enfield Nuts,
I purchased A sporterized Enfield rifle in almost new condition, with the usual stuff done, and usual stuff missing. No handgaurd, sights etc, the front sight was still on, but the section of barrel where the bayonet lugs should be I thought was missing, and the barrel has been re-crowned, so it appears as the factory did it.
The rifle markings else where have been removed and or obscured, but the ones that are clear show a stamped number of 648, E1 or EI has then been added to the front of it and 7 tagged on to the rear, in electro-pencil to read EI6487 or E16487 now in full, the rest of the rifle is marked the same in electro-pencil. The rifle is a 1955 Fazerkly FTR No4 Mark 1/2, which I found under what looked like that later matt black finish.
All seemed very normal, I grabbed a light colored handgaurd off of ebay and then discovered the thing will not fit as the barrel is to heavy, it's necked down fairly steeply just before the front sight, full length is 23 & 3/4inches. The bottom Fore-stock is cutoff right where an envoy would be, but corners rounded slightly and painted black. The gun is a 303, all other parts are as the shown in the parts list I've just down loaded, thanks.
I purchased this rifle with the idea of just putting a rear sight on it and flipping it, I'm now really interested in fixing it up and seeing how it shoots. I'm not sure what this gun is. The heavy barrel has thrown me, it's all factory marked, this is not added parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I've posted this appeal in one other spot about L39, L42's handgaurd's, in the hope someone can let me know what this is.
I'm sorry I've posted this incorrectly in other places, new to forums trying to figure out the rules. Please forgive an idiot.
Thanks Ian
God.........., it's here too! Harlton, excuse me for being a bit forthright, but read duplicate post answers and come back with better descriptions
Hi Simon
I own Enfield Enforcer no. 476 complete with numbered Pecar scope, bolt and mag, I bought the rifle in the eighties from 'Practical weaponry' in Stoke and was informed by the seller that it once belonged to Staffordshire Police, however, when I contacted them with a freedom of information request they said they had no record of 476 although they say they still have 202, do you have any info about 476?
Regards
Stuart
Good Morning Simon!
Just picked up L39A1 A899. Thank you for your assistance in learning more about this rifle.
Chris
Simon / Stewart - very, very strange.
202 was indeed issued to D&C Police and in response to a FOI request I made they told me that it was guillotined / destroyed. This is now the 6th D&C Enforcer that is known to be still in existence despite all of them being destroyed.
Hmmm,
I wonder if someone at D&C was a tad creative about what was and wasn't destroyed, thereby earning themselves a few bob on the QT? Don't forget the FOI is a relatively new thing and at the time the Enforcers were disposed of it was probably never envisiged that questions would be asked.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one Alan, PM me if you don't want to put them in the public domain.
Cheers,
Simon.
