Hallo All,
This is my 1907 bayonet with plastic grips.
The only information I have are the few lines contained in "British & Commonwealth Bayonets".
Have anyone any other information?

I wonder what those were made from? Not anything standard... They aren't well made either, or fitted so I expect they were a stop gap...
Thank you for your opinion Jim.
Regards. Giancarlo
There's a couple of guys here that will know for sure, give them time, they'll be along.
I have heard of the plastic grips used on British 1907 bayonets before and am aware of the example held by the Imperial War Museum, London which is a WW2 example. I wonder if the plastic grips were produced during WW2 for some new bayonets and as spare grips?

Sadly the link is not able to show a photograph.
I bitterly regret not buying a 1907 bayonet with these grips a few years ago when I had the chance.
The problem with this sort of thing on a bayonet (and they look so badly made that my son could do better with his junior wood work set) is that without any documentation or confirmation from official sources, that they go into folklore as 'ex Afghgan Army' or ' Kurdistan Home Defence Force issue.....'. You know the sort of thing. I'm a pragmatic realist and just accept that someone has made them up, badly from something he's had around for ages after failing several times trying with wood.
If there was anything real or official, the REAL bayonet experts who frequent this site would be on like a shot. Where are you when we need you Aragorn, Marysdad and porterkids?
No-one has, so far, been able to prove the provenance of these plastic 1907 grips but they are about, albeit not very common.
Thank you all, also to the "cynical" pragmatic realist.
The latest date on the bayonet I can see, is 1923, but I don't think the grips have been replaced on that date.
The bayonet, with its grips, are certainly original as it comes from the Italian Navy lot, and then, from Canada.
I'm sort of there too, these aren't very good, I've done much better from a slab of walnut and made them for a Jap bayonet... I can't imagine something this shabby being passed by a supervisor for actual issue. Imagine, anyone here that has inspected work, no matter how rushed, passing sub standard stuff? Are there any photos of these "Plastic" scales for the 1907 blades? Detailed descriptions?
