I'm in need of a real RMC early band, but not that familiar with them.
I can't see the top, to look at how many welds.
Also looks as though the inner ring is recessed quite a ways back.
Any thoughts?
Got my hopes up.....but I can handle the truth !

Looking in War Baby page 399 they talk about a UR band, but under the contractors page 403 they don't list one.
The font looks a bit off to me. I don't see where this guy has sold other carbine items, low feedback.

I see in Riesch that UR is listed...but it doesn't state on the band or swivel.
I see this seller has a few other carbine parts he's selling,

I think Jim is correct in that the bands were marked and not the swivels.

Ebay has made the photos difficult to copy. I had to first save it as a MS word photo and some details are lost here. I'll send you a small pdf to your email and you can see better details. The ends of the lines are rounded and the left bottom leg of the 'R' has a round area the goes to the right.
It looks like it's been laser etched to me. Ask the seller to send you a jpeg so you can see for certain.

The band on the Rock 0la I had was marked 'MR' and the swivel not marked at all.

The amount of recess on the inner band scares me.....without even seeing the top welds.

But I'm sitting....Siatic nerve pinched....hurts like hell. Doc gave me a shot this morning, lasted all of about 30 minutes :-(
I asked the seller for pics of the top and asked if he had replaced the screw. Curious at what he'll do.
For $35 I'd take it for now until I could find a real one....if possible.

FWIW, I think if you ever see one of these repro bands in person you'll know it in a heartbeat. I bought one (on purpose) for my son's re-enacting repro M1A1 stock, so I had a chance to see how poor they look in person. Finish wrong, don't fit correctly, screw head wrong, and threads are even different.

Yes, try to get this guy to send you a good photo just for the heck of it. The part may have been faked like that when he bought it. I hope they don't start coming from the Chinese with markings on them. They've been faking 1903 sight hoods with 'US' markings etched for a few years and the photos on ebay will look OK sometimes in photos.

I would have rather GIVEN you my Rockola just for you to have the band, rather than my ex-wife pawning it for $300:crying:

How can you tell the screw is fake?
to flat and the contour of the top is wrong. just doesn't match the real GI ones. Look closely at a real one you'll see. I hope this made sense.

I copied one of the photos from ebay (which isn't as easy to do now)
I hope this comes out to some extent to other members computers, but this is exactly how the finish looked on the fake one I bought. The finish looks like a sort of a thin semi-gloss black color, but not exactly like it's been blued, much less parked. I'd never mistake it for real and I'm sure none of you guys would either, no matter how good it was marked.

It won't fit correctly without a fight, the threads are wrong, the stamping wouldn't fool anyone in person (even if it were correct), and the finish is wrong.
Other than that it's 'perfect' -
abcLeach has made a fortune over the past couple of years with these $10 bands and I still don't know how he gets away with it. There must be a lot of funky type I bands riding around on carbines these days.
Just want to add a last thought or two. When the owners/sellers of real parts see fakes selling for these higher prices, wouldn't you think that influences the increasing cost in buying the real ones?
Grant it there are other factors to be calculated in because of the scarcity of these early, rare, and hard to find parts.
Seems a shame that the selling price of a repro part is factored in and partially to blame for setting the bar on the cost of real parts.
As times get harder we'll see more amd more carbines getting parted out. The humpers are getting better at their trade.....imagine the prices we may see down the not so distant road.
Granted some of the blame falls on us wanting that early looking original configuration. The humpers will continue making more parts, maybe to the point that more will be made after the war than during.

I always wonder if due to peoples lack of knowledge and lack of supply of original parts if we will see prices of good parts go down and better looking humped parts up until they cost about the same.
Look at what the repro band with the UR marked swivel sold for.......

I spotted this fake right away, but asked this clpp guy if this was a genuine band, just to see what he'd say -- I was amazed that he replied it was on a gun his father brought back from the war!Quote:

The seller never responded to me, did not post my message on his listing as he could have, and allowed the auction to go to completion for $132.50!
After the auction ended, I registered a complaint with eBay for this guy selling fake stuff; also sent eBay all communication between clpp and me.
Hope they smack him!
