OK, forget the info in the spiel about dunkirque, theres no way on earth this gun was there, but it is a 4th stage intermediate gun with a number between E9906 and F7491.

I have a chance to buy an Enfield Mk1 Bren (deact) complete with chest .... looked pretty nice from what I saw ... :)
I trained on a Bren back in the early 60's before they switched us over to the FN-C2, so it's a sentimental thing. Wouldn't mind picking up one to go with my deactivated 1943 MG42 Code "ar" Serial #133 (click here).
What's a deactivated Enfield Bren MK1 selling for nowadays in Canada?

Hi Doug, I've no ideas about values in Canada, but here in the UK, there are diffrent types of collectors, some would prefer good condition regardless of originality (This type would be the FTR'd Lithgow type guns made up from all new/refurb parts from all manufacturers), some like myself, prefer originality and others dont give a hoot. So on that basis, the values vary (Currently) from £300 to £400 for a standard Inglis/Enfield Mk1 and upto £600 for a correct Early DD Bren. The mint Lithgow guns were selling for about £200 a number of years back, but now they have all gone, the ones I've seen for sale recently have been upwards of £4-500 for a bitsa.
So in my oppinion, a used complete correct Mk1m should set you back about £300 to £350, in the UK however, there are some dealers asking double the true value, for instance, one UK seller is asking £1200 for a 1944 Mk3 renumbred by the Indians.

From the picture in the auction it looks like the serial might have been cut through by the torch... but it would not hurt to ask...
If it is of any value to you... I have the rear to middle chunk of Enfield MkI 1940, DD, E.3494... the front half location is not known to me. :crying:

I wish I had access to part from the USA, but alas they won't allow them into Canada without a great deal of paperwork. Too much hassle for me. Hopefully I can find the pieces to complete mine here in Canada.

Cheers Wally, I think there is a error with the number or the serial numbred part dosn't match the gun. E1401 would be a true Mk1 with the Enfield ED logo on the right side with the second dovetail on the left. I increased the size of the image and it looks like the numberd part dosnt match the rest which is odd as the rest does match. Perhaps the number is F1401?

"Gery, I think you are right, the torch cut goes right through the bottom of the letter, it very well could be an F, my eyes are not as good as they once were! The 1401 is correct though, hope that makes helps! John K"

Thanks Wally, that would make more sence, that would make it a late December 1940 gun. If theres a collector on the forum with some spare cash, I reckon this is a nice one to buy, theres not to many of these Intermediate guns about, paticularly in the USA.

Its located not too far away from me. I may just splurge for an early channukah present.............
I also have 2 bits of a demilled receiver which is an early Enfield with the Kings Crown over 1939. The serial number is B 7396. What does this tell us about the gun. I only wish I could find the front bit so I could have it rebuilt as a semi-auto.

Nice chunk of a 1939... I found a similar piece recently and it is in GA for the semi treatment... but its getting the front end of a 1940 Enfield model that had one of the horrid demils like the auction in question. Unfortunately, the serial portion is lost so I don't know it's real identity. Would a 1939 be in the B block? Or C to D? The 1940 that is donating the front end is a Y block gun. Chris, I can get you the serial number if you want it.
Now that I think about it the front end is probably a 1941... Y block being the case.

I've narrowed those down a bit more BP. Mine is a 1940 C-3441. I'll send them to you when I transfer the disc to this new computer..., when!

Thanks Peter, that narrows the the 39 to 40 gap down to less than 200. I have noticed one diffrence in the 1938 guns, its a very small detail but the earlier 38 I've observed (Which isnt many for obvious reasons) guns have a larger A prefix than the numbers. This may be just a occasional oversight but I've observed about 6 guns with a serial no higher than A3695 where the A was slightly larger than the later guns and it may not be obvous untill its compared to a later serial number. This obviously dosn't help when the serial number has been removed!Quote:

One of my Semi-Auto Mk I Brens has the serial BB8783 and the Enfield mark on the left. It didn't have the crown on the right, nor did it have the dovetail bracket for the indirect sight.
The second of my Mk I's does have the dovetail sight, but unfortunately the serial was obliterated during the rebuild, so I can't guess what it may have been.
