I have attached a picture of on unusual leather case that I think might be for some kind of scope, but could be wrong. There are no markings of any kind on it. This case is very similar in appearence and size to the ones used for the no 32 scope only it's oval in shape. Can anyone out there in forumland identify this item for me?? thanks for looking.

From a quick look I'd say it may be a case for a Scout Regiment Telescope.
What are the case dimensions?
Any lining material, etc.

I don't know much about cases, but that certainly looks like some sort of telescope case.

It does look like a sct regt scope case. Is it made oval or has it been flattened some how?
Here's my sct case to at least compare what it's the photo. I'm away from it for awhile so can't take any more photos or measurements.

It's definately not like any Sct Reg scope case that I've ever seen and I've seen a few. If it was a flattened Sct Reg Scope case, it'd have torn the stitching from the base and cap

Ah - the pics made it look round...
The style of sewing & the leather covered buckles, plus the overall feel makes me say its British...
I'll have to check my notes against the dimensions you added - but it may be a Pattern '18 scope case

Well, I found a couple of pictures on a website of an REL telescope case that I would like to ad to this thread. It appears that this case is Oval in shape and the site says this is a case for an REL sniper's scope and assume it is all original and a proper match to the telescope? As you can see from the picture that the end has been "squashed" (sp?) like Peter said in a previous thread and the stitching has burst, BUT the end piece does appear to be oval in the pictures. The buckle in the picture on the sight does not have the very fine leather covering however. Is it possible that this leather case I have was meant for an REL sniper telescope and made here in Canada during the war? Hope someone has some insight on this?

To edit out the extras, just right click on the photo- it ought to then have a "fence" then left click and hit the "cut" in the pop-up box. (gotta be in edit mode first!) I think that will work, but I can't verify on this computer-it's in "mobile" mode and doesn't have the usal editing niceties.
My pal has an old German between wars telescope in a long leather oval case just like that shown by Grant. It's clearly long enough to contain the full length of the telescope and made oval to allow the low telescope mounts to enter the case too. But, these old fashioned leatherworkers weren't ones for using rivets were they...................? Just my thoughts!
I have a case that's almost identical but missing the strap for a WW1 Aldis telescope. Mine is well marked with the Broad Arrow and rifle serial number on the front.
This case did come from a German collector Peter so I bet that it is for a German telescope? anyone else ever seen one like it?
The leather wrapped buckles look rather British than German, but as has been noted already, the last scope to have such a case was the Pattern 18. and it looks both too new and too long to be for one of those. The Germans seem to have an attachment to leather scope cases as they have persisted long after their disadvantages were shown, just like claw mounts. On the sum of it, I'd conclude it is a German made case from the 50s or 60s. Slim chance it might have been for one of those Aldis commercial scopes that were offered into the 1950s I believe. It's obsolescence matching that of the scope.
The only other possibility I can think of is perhaps a case for an artillery sight similar to one you posted photos of above Grant580. But as Peter already said, the oval shape is to permit the scope and mounts to be accommodated and I can't think of any artillery sight that would need such a case.
The Patt. 18 case was made so that the case was slung vertically and the lid slid up the sling straps on two loops IIRC. This one is carried on its side as you can see.
FWIW the scope cases for my P14(T) had the rifle/scope number stamped on the front of the case vertically below the buckle.
PS it was a BSA scope one of the Irish Free State rifles.
