Does this pouch look like a real US GI pouch? Also what is the button thing on inside for. Looks like its just going to scratch the stock. Mags go in but is very tight. Also only way to get the pouch on is to take the barrel out of the stock and slide it back towards to butt plate.
The seller on eBay said that these were new from WW2 that were still sealed in a box. What do u think.

I appears to be an original M1 Carbine magazine pocket. The button is for attaching it to the GI pistol belt, and not a Carbine stock. It was not designed to go on the Carbine stock, but some GI figured out that he could get it on there without too much trouble.
Ok cool. It was made for 15 round mags right. ?

I have always wondered, has anyone ever seen an actual period photo of a GI with the mag pouch affixed to the stock? I don't recall ever seeing one but have never really looked, I have seen plenty of them on the belt of course. Just wondering if the pouch on the stock is nothing more than a civilian or even a collector thing. I'm not saying it wasn't done, just wondering.Quote:

Remember, they started using colour in 1939. But I can't say where it's from exactly. Anyway, there's the pic from the front cover of Craig Riesch's book. The other one with the DP/M machine gun would be Korea I think. Beside the point, it shows what was asked...Quote:

I looked at the Korean pic again. There is a BAR on the ground in the backround, 2 rifle grenades in his pocket, looks like a cabine pouch on his belt and notice the strange sling on his carbine, that's adapting.

I've got a book on the 82nd AB that was printed in the early 50s and there are several pics in it that show pouches on carbines. My father was a glider rider in the 82nd/101/17th. He got moved around quite a bit.
Remembered the pictures I had copied from some of my uncle's photographs he made in WWII while with the 1269th ECB. This one is of Sgt. Bob Thibodeaux and according to the information on the original picture was made in France in 1944.

Going by the machinegun and the bayonet lug, it's Korea. Certainly not WW2 or Vietnam. And it shows the pouch on the stock so my question is answered - at least from Korea on.Quote:
