I have these two scope mounts for an FN rifle. I believe one is the C1A1 sniper scope mount, but I have not been able to find out any info about the second one in the photos. Any info is appreciated. https://www.milsurps.com/images/impo...3ghra890-1.jpg
Is the far one not for night vision?
If you put better pictures up - with a camera and not a mobile - you can usually get to the answer or if not the definitive answer, then by deduction. On that basis and the poor picture, the front one looks like a home tack welded hybrid of something. But I could be wrong!
FN-C1 scope mount top cover? A thread about the short body cover. Yes, it looks like the scope mount.
The long mount still looks like a night scope mount to me but since there were so many variations, I can't say. I don't think it will take the PVS 502 though for one...
I want to positively identify them so I can sell them...
Well, the top one is identified...as for the other, sell as is. Two guys that know what it is will bid to the moon for it.

Probably Ebay...watch your wording though. Maybe Gunbroker...there will be guys here have done way more selling on Ebay that can shed light if you wait a minute.
Thread 4, photo 4 LOOKS like a locally made version for the heavy old SS20/UK type IIW. But to be really honest, the notion that the side slide-on/off mount could be held onto the bracket cover with 4 allen bolts and remain secure under recoil is seems unlikely to me. Simply because…… Anyway!
well Peter, Look at the photos again, since you are so critical of them. There are 3 allen screws, not 4. There is also (2) dowel pins, one on each end to keep it from moving. It is not locally made, It is very obvious that it is a factory produced unit. It's too bad I don't have a camera that will produce a photo to your liking. I guess it is time for you to move along now, and not comment on my post any more. With your high post count, and overwhelming knowledge, and condescending remarks, I'd say, that I don't need your arm chair expertise any more.

So, I miscounted the amount of screws……. And didn't see/notice the pins. But my opinion remains the same. The rotational forces on that alloy bracket caused by the heavy recoiling UK type Rank Precision SS20 IIW night vision would damage it - JUST as it used to do on our UK made L1A1 covers that mounted the same IIW.
I wouldn't mind so much but you picked our brains for info so you could cash-in on the covers - and then give me a slagging for giving/telling you the little bit I knew! Did you know that the slide was to take the RP SS20 L1A6/7 type IIW night vision. Answer please before you use the info you have gained from us to elaborate on your sales patter.
I honestly know/knew very little about the parts, which is why I posted up asking for help identifying them. What I do not need, and will speak my mind about, are belittling comments about things being home made, and or being junk/weak. I'm not trying to discuss the engineering specs behind the piece, I'm trying to find out what they are, and what they may be worth. YES I want to sell them, and get some money out of them. I could just as easily toss them in the scrap bin, and destroy more potentially collectible items like others do.

If you don't like me calling you out on your comments, and standing up for my self, maybe you should trade your guns for a rainbow flag, and a peace symbol. He is VERY well respected, & held in High esteem by all of Us here on MILSURPS.
Sometimes, the language & way it is delivered MAY come across as a little sarcastic.
that is the Military Way! If you had seen/ done/ Expierienced life & events in this way of Life.

I didn't take offense Tankie, believe me. Like everyone else who's married, I just take it on the chin and laugh it off as part of lifes great tapestry. It just galls me sometimes that when people ask for advice or comment and you give just a bit more than they asked for……….
The irony is that the UK IWS mount was a one piece casting spot welded to the cover reinforce and it STILL peeled back. So how the light fabricated one would fare is anyones guess!

Geez and I thought I was a prickly customer and stirred the hornets nest with a stick, maybe Mr F.C (I love that acronym suits to a tee pity I cannot type their alternate meaning here!) would share his profits from the sale of the mounts to help this web site continue to give the populace sound advice. And Mr F.C took the time to as Peter said to silken up his pockets after he found out what the mounts were, good for you FC I bet you told the buyer "In my experience this is what they are ______ because I have all this knowledge!!!!" If you reckon Peter is arrogant then bloke you take the cake of shear impudence for your own gain I reckon Badger would like to read your comments, if it was me your type would not get past post #12.........
Just as a bit of a postscript ~ Mr F.C should take the time to look through the threads at what some of the clever people on this site (I am not one of them) can fabricate from scratch material and those mounts are not beyond their abilities though they will always be repros. One effort that stands out are the Sniper "T" No.32 scope brackets even though they are a repro they are so good and well made the MoD accepted them as good as the originals so you cannot get better than that.
The Long NV Sight mount is a Pilkington supplied mount. Its a copy of the British Army's IWS mount which has a cast bracket.
Basically its a cheaper to manufacture commercial version Pilkington would supplied It can be seen in their brochures from the 80's.
As the others said the short one is for the Canadian C1 Sniper Scope. There are people looking for the Sniper mounts.

Just like to add my comments regarding Furlongs attitude, I have been a member here for a few years now and joined to further my knowledge of the L1A1, first general information then more in detail. The same is true for the Springfield and the Enfield rifles.
I have found Peter, Mike ,Kevin and others on here invaluable in my ongoing research, due to the level and sheer depth of knowledge they have learned over many years and are happy to share with the wider community......I thank you very much for that gents.
If Furlong wishes to remain a member, he needs to grow up and apologise, or go and inhabit one of the many other firearm forums on the internet that descend into handbags at dawn on a daily basis....plenty to choose from!
Was it a PILKINGTON commercial mount or RP/RANK PRECISION commercial mount KtK? I ask because I have seen the RP designation referred to as RANK-PILKINGTON. Not so - as they were totally different companies but both used Phillips and EEV electronics.
One other problem we had with our IIW covers was that firing the rifle would tear the little ears from the bottom rear of the cover. When this happened we would just snip them off if they were cracking and/or make good with a smooth file. I always wondered why the top covers had the little ears anyway. I mean….., it couldn't slide forwards or backwards so why bother with them?

Geezz.., I hate these type of threads, but after all, it is the Internet and reading what people say out of context is more challenging then hearing them say it, complete with facial expressions and tone. :lol:
Anyway, furlongcustom appears to be a commercial firm and joined our site June 16th, apparently for the sole purpose of making some money off of having other members identify some parts he came across.
I have no problem with that, but he also failed to read our Forum Rules & Site User Agreement, particularly about member interaction, courtesy and behaviour.
I have read this thread a few times now and I don’t understand furlongcustom’s reaction to comments about needing better photographs. I also don’t understand where he was insulted by any of our members, who appear to be genuinely trying to help him make money for himself and in Peter’s case perhaps provide an alternative and genuinely contrarian view as to what his items may be.
So, Bill ( a moderator) placed furlongcustom on a temporary “forced rest” time-out for two days, just to permit cooler heads to prevail. Bill also sent him a very professional private message as to why. After reading some additional (and pretty ignorant) public comments that he posted in this thread about members and our site itself, which Bill removed from public view and therefore all of you won't see, I've decided to make the ban permanent. We have 26,000+ members and fortunately, these kinds of situations don't happen very often.
I think furlongcustom got his answer anyway, so there’s not much else that can be added to this thread and it’s probably appropriate it remain closed.
