Howdy from Prarie Dog Town

Howdy to the M1 Carbine Forum...
I would like to introduce myself as a newbie to this list, and ask in advance your indulgence of my country ignorance. I really like M1 Carbines, and can truthfully say that I "built" my first one as a callow youth. Growing up, I heard all the adults talking about WWII, and saw the photos and aircraft overhead. Just have had an interest all along. My first "carbine" I built out of wood scraps an old Daisy BB gun stock and a dowel. For use in playing "war" with my neighborhood ruffians. We had a lot of innocent fun back then.
My interest in WWII related stuff has continued unabated into these "adult" years. Now my problem is "lack of focus". But M1 Carbines are one of my primary interests. I am anxious for the knowledge of this group.

Looking Forward to discourse here.

Here's a couple I've had hidden in the closet for some time.

I was interested in the discussion about IP's not being the rarest, and someone mentioned line-outs. There was some talk about Rock-Ola spring tubes too. Are they that uncommon??

Jim, Welcome to the forum! This is a very friendly and knowledgeble group. Just to let you know, this group just "migrated" over from Jouster's CSP site which lasted for 10 years (for several unfortunate reasons that site was shut down). These people here know their carbines! As far as you having carbines in the closet, pull them out and show them off. Everyone here loves looking at pics of sexy looking ... ahhhh, I mean... great looking carbines!

Nice IBM/AO lineout to NPM. With a little luck, I may be posting some other photos of similar lineouts in the next few days. TJL and I will be getting together and taking pics of our lineouts. It should leave some of you guys drooling......or at least hyperventilating....:yikes::eek:

Hey Jim,
I had trouble resizing the avatar to something that could be seen. I'm not sure about how to do all that "stuff".
It is a sidecar, a 1953 Stieb S500 attached to a 1967 BMW R60. I used to be a BMW motorcycle dealer, and still have some of my "projects" lurking in the shop. This particular one is one of my favorites....

Jim, I've been keeping track of the IBM/AO serial numbers. Could you verify that your lineout is 3845076?

Have you considered joining the Carbine Club?

Thanks New Scottie --- Yes, that is the correct s/n.

Been a member of the Carbine Club for a while now. It's a great resource.. The best, methinks.... Just wish they had all their old newsletters scanned and put into word documents. Would be a LOT easier to study. At least for me.

Jim, Thanks for the serial number confirmation. You had me confused with the "Nasium".

Harlan, Yes, I have that one, but I didn't know the last number. Thank you. The highest AO serial number that I know of is 390768x. If someone knows of a higher number, please let me know.

A very nice collection. You have your collecting niche, don't you?

My first impression is that I like the Saginaw subcontract to Inland then integrated to Underwood receiver (745541) the most. Thanks for showing.

I have some of the "ordinary" carbines too, but somehow the really scarce ones just keep calling my name. Yeah, I used to have the one of each collection, but somehow it just didn't cut it. Then I started with all the subcontracts (I still have some like the NPM/U and the Underwood T for example), but those didn't quite do it either. So finally I decided to blow my entire fortune and go for the "gold". Maybe some day that Commercial Controls will be found.........Well I can dream can't I????

Yes Sir, your collecting niche is most interesting. It well illustrates the cooperation our country was able to gather in order to achieve the common goal. And likely, the collection you have gathered will not be duplicated in all our lifetimes put together. Not enough superlatives for what you have shown, Sir. Hats off to you!!:beerchug:
