So I purchased a 100yd sight for my G1911 longrifle from Swiss Products and today I attempted to install it but I can’t drift the front sight out. No matter what I use or from which side I try from it will not move. You’d almost think it was stakes in place. What have people used to push out their sights? Does anyone make a front sight tool that can be adapted for use? I’m not willing to pay almost $200 for a Swiss front sight tool that will only be used once...
Go to the hardware store and buy an $8.oo nut splitter, flatten the end of it and there is a way to make it work for the G11. That splitter works best with the k31's, but......... If you put a steel "spacer" to hold it slightly away from the edge of the sight base, it will work on the G11.

You'll have to wait until my shop manager is available in a few hours. Those sight blades for the G11, both original and ours have an almost imperceptible taper to match the base. OGS (age) leaves me with an imperfect memory, so even though I designed them many years ago, I can't remember this morning.
The original blade is NOT staked. Whatever you do, please don't try using a steel drift.
I'll have the answer when he returns from a meeting.
BTW........... The reason that Swiss Armoury tool is so expensive is that it's a big, bulky affair that micro adjusts.

Yes,,,,,,,,, on a k31, but the G11 requires a bit of modification of that unit for it to work.

I have one for a Model of 1917 that is vary similar to the K-31 (have to check the 1911)
The price was so good it was not worth my building one (I do that fiddly stuff) Free shipping when he has them.
No photo is showing up. Is it an Elby tool? If so, while they make great front sight tools and I have a couple (for a Mosin and a Lee Enfield) none fit the G1911. My Mosin tool almost does but won’t quite fit over the front sight band. I did pick up a nut splitter as Pierre advises buy have been having a lot of trouble angling it correctly to work... But it’ll help in a couple months when I get my K31 back and have to do the same.Quote:

See if I can upload the picture, marginal on the K-31 but would work, would have to add another screw in each side to work with the 1911.

I’ve gone back and forth about getting the diopter sights but I probably never will. When it comes to milsurp rifles I just prefer to shoot them with irons (sniper variants withstanding)...Quote:

Hi RC20, I got that for 250€. That is really low, but the guy selling it is an older shooter from around here who has some problems with his right eye, so now he is selling all his milsurps and “paraphernalia“ like this.
Here it runs normally at around 400 €, so I’m very happy with my purchase.
Hope to be able to go and try it in the next few days.
The most wonderful part is the installation. A few seconds, just a few seconds...

Here the first try.
Today. A tad later than I had wished for, but still...
At 100 meters I shot some scrounged brass with Lovex powder. A new mix to me.
Once adjusted and over with the experimental rounds, I went to 200 meters with my usual load of N140 and S&B FMJBT bullets, 147 grs.
First shot a tad low. 10 clicks up and second shot in the bullseye, the one slightly right.
For being this the first time I ever shot with similar sights, I’m really satisfied!
The note POA on the 100 meters target is BS. I had to write it on my K98k target and, chatting, wrote it on the wrong one:clap:

Ok. I'll begin putting it together from my Archives. Typing much at a time is difficult for me. Besides the firearms industry, I was also a chisel and mallet mural carver for the past 50 years, and a bit too aggressive. I wore away the cartilage in both wrists, and micro surgeries left me with severe wrist and hand difficulties. It changes day to day and today is not a very good one, so please be patient.
