I have posted on here before and I have been given some help in figuring out what I have.
I have a National Ordinance Carbine, which I know is a tragedy. I have read that a lot of the National Ordinance parts were USGI, except for the receivers, I hope I read that correctly.
I am thinking of changing the receiver to a USGI 1.
Three Questions
1. Is a Quality Hardware receiver a USGI receiver?
2. Will it fit on there?
3. How can i tell if the upper is USGI?
1. Yes, A Quality Hardware Receiver is an USGI Receiver.
2. Are you asking if you can replace your National Ord Receiver with the Quality Hardware receiver?? Probably, but are the rest of your Nat Ord Carbine's parts USGI? Don't recommend putting commercial parts on a QHMC receiver
3. There is no "upper" on an M1 carbine, you have a receiver, a barrel, and a trigger housing.

I suspect with my luck the receiver and barrel are also not USGI, though I haven't found a definitive way to tell.
I really think I need a new trigger housing to solve my magazine problem, any suggestions?
Any experience with this company?

My experience with them has been kind of "so, so." Can't remember if you've posted any pictures of the parts on your Carbine? That would help us figure out what you have in the way of G.I parts. Some of the commercial carbines used demilled carbine barrels that had surplus '03 barrels fitted to them. If yours has (2) groove rifling, that's a sure sign of '03 barrel conversion. - Bob
I'm assuming you mean 'slide' [charging handle] all 'GI' slides interchange.
If it is a USGI barrel it will be marked on top of the barrel behind the front sight as who made the barrel. If it isn't marked behind the front sight or have a WP entwined on the barrel it's not USGI. A few Winchester barrels will have an Ordnance bomb on or around the right side of the gas cylinder.
That'd be Ordnance. An Ordinance is a law.
Read the stuff on the .30carbine.com link from W5USMC before you do anything else. And decide how much money you want to spend on a Commercial Carbine with little or no collector interest. It's money you will not get back if you decide to sell the thing.
Most Carbine parts were made by hordes of small shops all over the Eastern U.S. and were not marked in any way. Note that Nat Ord basically cobbled Carbines together using their own cast receivers and issue receivers.
Sarco is one of the 'go to' places, but not everything they sell is milsurp. They do tell you if it is or not as I recall.
"...my magazine problem..." What problem is that? Feeding issues may be the mag lips got closed in a wee bit. That's easily fixed with needle nosed pliers. Just tweak the lips open a wee, tiny, small, bit until it works. Have a 30 round mag that didn't feed until I did that.
Almost all Carbine parts are marked, as mandated by ordnance. What's the purpose of saying marked parts aren't marked?
In fact it is pretty rare to find unmarked genuine USGI carbine parts.
He may be talking about parts such as extractors. I have usgi extractors that are made by Parker that are not marked. The only marked thing about them is the package they come in which has the Parker name, but when you open the package, the extractor is not marked at all. Parker may be post-war, and that may be why they are not marked, but to my understanding, they were made under government contract .All parts made during the war may have been marked, I'm not really sure, that's something that the experts would know I'm sure. Was all parts made during wartime marked?

Yea, I didn't catch the term "most carbine parts". I already knew that most parts were marked, I originally thought sunray said some carbine parts
Sunray must know it's an erroneous statement that they weren't marked since he hasn't substantiated his statement?
Of the tiny percentage of unmarked parts, many have assembly queues that ID which Carbine maker they were used on. Even when you find them removed from a Carbine you can still determine which maker it was probably removed from.
Well, we know there were marked so I don't see any point in beating up Sunray over this.
It's important that we say we know they're marked, but obviously that message isn't for us. There's a bigger picture. Sunray isn't being beaten up, I was hoping he'd engage in the discussion.
The bigger picture is about obtaining a resolution for future newb readers looking for answers when they find this site from a search engine, that they get the most concise answer without looking at additional threads anymore where it looks unresolved. It's a relevant site and thankfully we've helped one member's confusion in this thread. When new people stumble here they won't know one way or the other what's right without proper guidance.
