Bought this coat at the thrift store, and I believe it’s a military issued coat but not sure, I could be wrong and it’s not one, no date or anything except for the number 2 inside, would appreciate any comments or recommendations on what date and name it could be thanks
Check inside the pockets for labels.
Just a wild guess. Possibly a Russian or German POW coat
Checked inside the pockets and nothing, just the lining, it’s a very heavy insulated coat
I would have said that it looks a bit like a variation of the olive green "Nato jacket", subject to confirmation on the number of pockets.
If anybody could lead me to more information on this id really appreciate it
If it only has 2 pockets, I would say that it is not a "Nato style" jacket. You haven't confirmed the number of pockets yet and I can't tell from the pics.Quote:

I am by no means an expert on this but I don't think this is military in my opinion. I have never seen a seam in the middle of the back of a military garment,they are usually one piece of material until you get to the sides where the arms start. Also, the buttons on all of my military jackets do not have the buttons sewn all the way through from the outside to the inside of the jacket. The way all mine are made are the buttons are sewn on before the lining of the jacket is applied.now on your example the buttons could have fallen off at some point and someone stitched them back on going all the way through the liner of the jacket, but who knows.most military garments also have the drawstring to where you can cinch the waist section of the jacket snug around the waist. The draw string on your example seems to only adjust the way the back of the garment fits to the body. I'm sure eventually someone who knows exactly what this is Will chime in

Prisons made or still make there own clothing. Very big industry in the USA. That style looks like middle 1950's.

It is likely something along those lines. The style of construction and lay out and style of the buttons is very Russian in origin. Those coats were not unique to the gulag, they are also construction workers, miners and equipment operators jackets. I had a green one some time ago and it was very warm.Quote:

This looks like WWII Soviet Military winter jacket to me. The pattern on the inside is consistent with how the Soviets used to sew their jackets.Quote:
