Thanks guys, I get it now, borderline dyslexic, college was a bitch. So it is a US 1898 30 40 made in 1899. Is there a way I can correct that in the thread title? I'll try to post pictures. Sorry they are not better. I am pretty sure it is an original stock cut down. It has the cleaning rod slot. Were carbine butt plates different? Were rifles drilled fro the trap door in the butt? Well one of six posted. I'll try again when I calm down. OK. I'm better now.

Don't worry about that. The pics are clear... Nice sporter, there are a few here that have done threads about their Krag hunters. I wouldn't try restoration as it doesn't show on SRS list... Bet that one shoots sweet. Mine all did.
