    Saginaw Gear S' G" M1 Carbine

    Guys,

Your thoughts on this item please.

Listing states Low Wood, however the photo is a High Wood. The rear sight looks odd as well.

Anyone have any idea who uses the attached parts listing format?

    Thanks for your thoughts,

It looks better than mine, but does look like it's been "spruced up" a bit - possibly some parts refinished. That front band doesn't look right - at least the way it's installed and they don't mention any markings being on it, so could be a reproduction. The stock is very nice, but the Raritan rebuild markings hurt the value a bit. Mine has a Blackburn rear sight base and the sides on them are more square at the top, but that one looks really "square" and the pictures don't show the markings very clearly. The stake marks for the sight are visible and look somewhat like mine, but it's a bit unusual for one to be centered that nicely. I've seen that format on parts listings before and it's helpful, but leaves a lot of questions unanswered. At today's prices, it's probably in the ballpark. Lots of other guys here have S'G's that know more about them than I do. I have a lot of pictures of mine and of the internal parts, but wouldn't help much unless you could see those on the listed carbine. Let me know if you want to see the rear sight on mine. - Bob

A S'G' serial number 3,220,702 should have a barrel date more like ~mid March to late May 1943 instead of the 6-44 Underwood it was wearing when purchased.

As you and GI Bob noted there are other issues, some not seen. Who buys for that kind of money with out raising the hood?
