Yeah, funny I was just reading about the SAAMI measuring tools issue last night.
I just meant to verify it for safety. But, mostly, to verify the ammo I have is safe.

Took the rifle to a safe location, pointed in a safe direction, and inserted a single 8mm round, closed the bolt, opened the bolt, and perfectly ejected the round 7 feet to my 4 o'clock.
The ammo looks good, and some of it is obviously newer.

Yes, they surely are. Don't recognize the headstamp but it's WWII era made in 1944. In the U.S. the cartridge is known by it's SAAMI designation 8mm Mauser, in Europe C.I.P. refers to it as the 8x57mm IS and the military designation is 7.92x57. Confusing ain't it?

I'm far from a bayonet expert but it does look sorta like a Spanish bayonet for the earlier M93/95 Mausers. As I understand it the reason for the extension is so these older bayonets could be used.

Bayonet is not likely Spanish. Probably Brazilian. That being said it would likely fit with the extension in place. Look up 1943 bolo Spanish bayonet or K98 bayonet. Those are the two types that would be proper with this rifle. A completely unmarked K98 bayonet is most likely Spanish. They are around, everyone just assumes they are German and list them as such.

The 7.92mm ammunition is 1944 Canadian. Boxer primed and very nice stuff.

So, I shouldn't use it to put holes in paper targets? :p

Not legal for most states hunting laws. Use it in Matches and whatever you need. Save the brass as it is reloadable.
