Am having difficulties opening the CSP Forums. All I get is "the CSP forums are now closed. Old site reopens (click here)" What am I doing wrong? Should I go back to the early 2009 forum??? It would make life a lot easier going back, but Military Surplus Collectors Forums deserve lots of Kudos, for steping in and taking over the way they did. Thanks much folks.

You're welcome and thanks for the positive feedback. We did the best we could, although it seems that we still couldn't please everyone, judging by some of the ugly posts that are now appearing about us. What we find surprising, is that seems to be going on with the full support of the Culvers and Pat, which my wife and I find hurtful, considering what we've done publicly and privately for them, most of which nobody will ever know about publicly. ;)
I guess the old adage applies, no good deed goes unpunished. :lol:
Anyway, the facts speak for themselves and for every individual who wishes to post a hateful comment to create a revisionist view of history, or marginalize what we, supported by so many of your CSP membership brethren accomplished on behalf of the CSP community, there's always a lot more folks like yourself who may say little, but the content of what they say speaks volumes about the truth. Thanks again, it does take courage to speak up and perhaps face the wrath of some who like to dominate these type of Internet boards to make it all about them, rather than the good of the whole ... :super:
The new site is working fine, so I'm not exactly sure why you're having difficulties. :confused:
It may be a DNS problem which is the directory that needs to get updated across the Internet when new sites come on-line or a site changes its IP address.
Give it a day or so and keep trying. You may find it all of a sudden finds the site, depending upon your ISP's DNS servers and where you're located.
If you still have a problem, send me your phone number via email and I'll call you at a convenient time to see if I can help you wish some diagnostics and walk you through the problem. :thup:

I do love your site and the calm, respectful way that you are managing it. I share your amazement at the actions of the Culvers, but I am not too surprised. I must admit that, although I will never register or post on Culver's site, I find myself drawn to it (kind of like watching a train wreck).
I would like to thank Badger, his wife, Bill Hollinger, Rick the Librarian, Amatikulu, Bob Womack and cafdfw for their
hard work in developing and managing the CSP Milsurps.com site. It is obvious that a tremendous amount of work and coordination as well as money was necessary and provided by Badger and his crew to bring the CSP community through the rough period while jouster.com was down. Badger and his crew deserve not only our thanks but our admiration and respect for a job well done!

I have been a member of jouster?CSP(now I'm not sure which is which)for ten years. But, if the same people that have been sending me very distastefull e-mail pertaining to political positions are associated (and I know they are) I won't be visiting either. I haven't been able to get my spam blocker to stop it yet either. I will say, said poster sent me a very confusing letter purported to be from Gloria. I don't know all of the story(and don't want to know)but I don't get it.
I guess I don't surf enough, but this whole thing caught me by surprise about 10 min ago. I go to CMP and here just about every night and this is the first I've heard about any of this stuff. I was a long time member of the Culver's forum and was thankful that it was basically saved from oblivion by milsurps.
What was going on while I was blissfully going through this forum every night????

The reason the 2nd/political board was removed was because all the complaints that were lodged about it from the general membership and the fact that it was getting so nasty that it was impossible to keep going. Whether anyone got upset about it or not is irrelevant. The fact was there was no word from anyone from the old site to give us direction. Numerous phone calls were made, numerous PMs were sent and nothing. We needed direction and a path in which to take the forums and we did just that, albeit, on our own. It did not sit well with a few folks. For that I am sorry but one can not please everybody. We did what we felt was right.
It is important that all of us here at Milsurp be as helpful as we possibly can to help our hobby. It serves no purpose not to help. This is not a competition between one site or another. Each has good and bad, that is all there is to it. I will always look back at what I have done here proudly as all the rest of the Milsurp staff should do. They busted their tail ends for like minded enthusiast. For that I am not sorry a bit. I, as well as all the other Milsurp staff, wish all the best to the new CSP site and to Dick and Gloria Culver. Also, a huge thank you to Dick and Gloria for all their hard work throughout the years. They are truly an asset to the gun collecting community.
That red tag below my name "Culver Fund Donator" means something to me as I'm sure it does to every other member who shares it.
Personally, as long as milsurps welcomes me, I'm staying here.
Here I can get good info without sifting through a bunch of flame wars and ego collisions.

Milsurps threw a rope before the CSP was about to fall into a black hole of Cyber darkness.
Remember how most every board was taken over by the Spammers.
Remember the count less E-mails with concerns and even offers to help that were never returned?
Remember the creeping slow speed of the Forums?
Remember the users that were using 6 different names just to disrupt the Forums?
People tend to forget to fast.
This site didn't just step up to the plate, but brought the ball and bat plus offered to carry the CSP until the Culvers could get back up and on their own.
It was the instant action on the part of Milsurps, grabbing what history that could be salvaged from the old CSP site before it vanished.
Does anyone remember that?
A original agreement meant to last a couple months at best.
Mind you with no monetary interest for the Milsurps team. But just the opposite with great out of pocket costs along with the added effort and labor to try to run someone else's site to their liking. The headaches that came with it were free.
It was a no win situation from the start. But Milsurps stuck it out.
We were greeted here with a friendly invitation to enjoy the new site.
Pull up a chair, put your feet up and get comfortable.
That's hard to find in this day and age.
Even set up what I called the Culver Relief Fund.
This is a 24-7-365 day active forum, that needs to be maintained, funded, moderated...etc not something you can handle part time and pop in every other month to just say HI Guys !!
New and Old Member's considerations are being taken into account. Decisions had to be made. Previous obligations to advertisers had to be met.
Not to mention keeping up with the interests of the 'ORIGINAL MILSURPS MEMBERS'
These guys opened their door and invited us in with a warm welcome.
Remember when you first checked in...you had a 'WELCOME JOUSTER MEMBERS' banner. We were guests.....we can now be Members !
With what I assume was limited guidance or input from the Culvers, Milsurps was forced to make some decisions. These decisions were made from the moderators acting as a team with the sites and our interests in mind. What more could you ask? I'm sure some were tough, but had to be done. I'm sure some were legal issues that can't be put on hold.
Granted Gloria had some requests. Most like shutting down the Glock Forum were respected, but many weren't feasible.
Remember the interest expressed by Gloria to charge a fee for using any of the CSP Forums?
Take the time to read back through the announcement pages. I think if you can read between the lines you'll see that the Milsurps Team had our back the whole time.
We as new members on this site were kept informed of updates, proposals and decisions.

But I don't plan to turn my back on a group of the guys who have watched our backs for months now. Not after seeing the respect they've shown the Culvers and ourselves.
There are plenty of Political Forums out there.
We here are collectors of Militaria. We have the opportunity to do that here in a friendly enviroment. What more could we ask for?

I'm now truely sorry I contributed to the CSP Relief Fund. Hopefully my contribution helped Dick & Gloria on a personal level. I do wish it had been better used in the managment of the CSP Forum.
I'm gonna "un-subscribe" from CSP and remain here as a member. Perhaps any minor imput I contribute, and perhaps financial help will be better appreciated.

It seems most of the slamming is on the 2nd Ammendment site. I quit going there a long time ago. I thank you for welcoming me to your site & will continue to visit. As primarily a rimfire shooter I spend most of my time in RFC but visit other sites for info. I will continue here as I do have some milsurp rifles
Ok, I hate coming to a thread late and having to play catch-up. Someone called Bill Hollinger a "puke"????? Man, that ain't right - everyone knows he's just an "old fart" (and he has a cool jeep, too!).
I only started posting to some of these gun forums when I got back into firearms after my retirement in January. Six months is not enough time to know EVERYTHING and everybody and who said what. The one thing that has struck me is that there are 3 different groups or categories that posters/members fall into. The first is the "newbies", like me, who want to know everything and really know nothing. We just want to fit in and learn everything the old farts know. The second are the "old farts" who have been collecting and trading long before even us middle aged guys were around. You know who you are. You remember the NFA of 1968 being instituted! The third group I call the "neurotic nobodies". Those are the guys that act like they know everything when they won't listen and learn; they have to wreck everyone else's fun because they always have to have the "biggest and bestest" to meet their neuroic, insecure needs. We all grew up with them, the bully who destroyed everyone else stuff because he really didn't have anything nice himself. (let's bow our heads in a moment of pity for those who need have "carbine envy")
I will probably continue to visit both sites - for now - and see how things play out. I want to learn from those that will teach and I want to share with those that will socialize appropriately. If I want to deal with childish behavior, well, I will go volunteer at the local daycare center!
These weapons were used by our fathers before most of us were born. With proper care and HEALTHY support from gunowners in our society, the weapons will be around for our great grandchildren. Thats my goal.
Now, I am off my soap box and I got my asbetosis underwear on. Let the flaming begin!!!

Your post was very well stated and insightful.
I remember when you first joined our group of carbine enthusiasts and you've contributed very much to the carbine forum. You have also contributed very much to many of the other forums here on Milsurps.com while Doug was hosting the all the groups from the old CSP. Doug (Badger) took over all of the members from the old CSP and gave everyone in the group a place to stay together while Gloria's site was inoperable.
You didn't say anything wrong, and don't need to worry about being 'flamed' here anyway -
We've been talked about badly by a few people lately because we (moderators) tried to protect new people from being beaten up by a small group of bullies. Doug won't tolerate this kind of activity and 'hired' a great group of moderators to try to watch over posts so nobody gets hurt. People must be (somewhat) respectful and act (fairly) adult here. :lol:
The 'new' CSP sight will have a lot of information you'll enjoy and you are doing yourself a favor by reading all the info you can read from both sites. Both sites have mostly the same group of knowledgeable members.
O.T. and in closing -
How are things WAY over there in Ft. Worth? I went to the big Walmart on HW 183 in Irving today and checked the sporting goods area and they only had THREE boxes of strange cal. ammo! They didn't have any hunting goods at all. No camo clothing, zip! I haven't been to the Walmart here in two years, but they used to have racks and racks of hunting stuff this time of the year. Is it just Irving? I read your reports of the carbine ammo at Walmarts in Ft. Worth and wondered if all of them are this bad as far as hunting/guns now. :thdown:

Just a heads up for a lot of CSP members who may be reading this post and having difficulties registering for the new Culver site.
There's nothing wrong with the software they are using and unfortunately, we can't transfer your account from here to there because of the nature of the security used for passwords etc. The software being used on the new site is the latest version of vBulletin and there are some operational differences, but essentially the registration process etc., is exactly the same. ;)
The problem people are experiencing is exactly the same as what many went through here, often simply user inexperience with computers etc. It is what we referred to for those of you that read our recent announcement of the opening of the new Culver site. :)
As an example, last night I sat in my hotel room while traveling on business and answered more than a half dozen personal emails, trying to help people register on the new site. Ironically, many from the same folks who had registration issues when they arrived here. Heck, I even had to sign up and register for one member on his behalf and create his own profile for him. :lol:Quote:
In addition, we literally spent hundreds of hours on-line answering emails, trying to help educate a lot of elderly gun owners transition to a more modern bulletin board software interface. Most days we felt like we were teaching computer science and our phone bill sitting on long distance talking huge numbers of inexperienced people through logging-in and how to post a message, literally drove our phone bill through the roof.
I have not registered personally, nor do I intend to. It's apparent we are not welcome there and I don't go places that people have referred to Bill Hollinger as a "puke" and my wife and I as thieves. Why on earth would I ever want to put ourselves through that kind of torture? :(
Anyway, the point of my post here is that for those of you that are still experiencing problems registering with the new Culver site and can't figure it out, or get technical support from Gloria, just leave us a note through the Contact Us (click here) at the bottom of the page and Bill, myself and the rest of the ex CSP moderators will try to help you out, as we did here. :thup:

Back from ten days at Mescalero and Navajo. Well, now I know why I couldn't log on to CSP/jouster!
I guess it's OK with me. I like to do my politics face to face, preferably in a public forum. You can really roar in real life politics. Anyway, I gotta take the relatives to Yellowstone and Grand Teton for a week, I'll post some stuff when I get back.

Did you register on Jouster? You only need to register and you can post away.
Jouster has the 2nd amendment forum and many of the regulars are there.
As Doug said, the software interface for Jouster is the same as it is here. If you have any trouble getting going over there don't hesitate to ask us at:

I'm a little confused by all this. However, i will say to Badger, I've been through similar stuff in the real world. As opposed to online. You got to maintain your dignity and sense of self when the going gets weird.
I was posting a lot of stuff on the Nez Perce war on the Culver site. I was getting ready to do a post on the Clearwater fight (where the US almost lost the Indian Wars) when the site went belly up. I might continue, depends on whether the trapdoor and krag mobs go back there or stay here.
Anyway, I like the way this site works and really don't miss the political stuff, which IMHO was pretty much lowest common denominator.

I've know Badger for a few years now and was honored when he asked me to come onboard at the start-up of Milsurps.com as his Head Moderator. His passion for our hobby (or lifestyle, more appropriately) and his integrity are what makes this site what it is.
Personally, I don't wish to see any bashing or flaming of other sites, no matter what the issues may be. Civil discussion is certainly acceptable, as that's what makes any internet forum successful.
To all the CSP members who have found a place at Milsurps.com to discuss their passion for military surplus arms and the history around them, I say "welcome".

havnt checked out the CSP new site as of yet, a pain setting up all the info to do so,
yea, i know, im lazy, but, a new home, is just that, a new home.

With respect, the first time I ever turned on our new computer, the very first place I went was CMP... then CSP. I have since "broadened" my focus. I am very thankful for the kindness shown by this site to the Culvers and CSP. I will continue to visit this site daily (as is my habit) as well as CSP. Personally I will choose to focus on what will help build both Milsurp and CSP. Those of us who enjoy owning and shooting firearms are wise to do our best not to splinter ourselves. There are many avowed enemies of freedom, especially our Constitutional right to own and enjoy the use of firearms. Let's not make it any easier for them to destroy our sport, our hobby and our nation. Sincerely. BruceV.
