A Bren transit case is wider.

I have a complete set of plans for a No4T transit box somewhere. That looks to be the same IIRC. Will try to find the drawings if anyone interested.

On the same subject, if anyone has a pic or diagram of a Bren box, I would like to see it. The Lithgow snipers were stored and transported to issue in pairs in modified Bren boxes. I missed out badly several of years ago- a gunshop had advertised Bren boxes for sale. By the time I found out and rang him, he only had one of the 2 dozen left. He asked me if I knew why they were so popular..... I shouldn't have told him, he had 2 Lithgow snipers in his collection and decided not to sell the last box -------- BUGGER!

The width is right for a Enfield chest, but the height is what looks out of whack.
If the box is for a Cno7, then it would be about 7.5" high. If it is for a 4T, then it should be 9.5" high. Your plan shows 16.5" high.
Similar boxes were issued for all sorts of Brit equipment, including Vickers MG, Vickers tripod, mortars, and there even was a post war version for the Cdn sterling C1 SMG.

There is a small mountain of Bren chests at the local surplus yard. But they have been sitting outdoors for over 30 years now, and really are showing their age.

If they're still in one piece at all after 30 years or so, that's a testament to how well made they were

Yes, I was worried about the size.

    (Click PIC to Enlarge)

Note: After you click on images to ENLARGE them, you may find they automatically size smaller in your browser's window making them harder to view. The auto sizing is your browser's way of keeping images entirely within the screen size you have set. Move your mouse pointer to the bottom centre of the pic and you will see an options panel appear. There will be a small square box next to the large X, which will have a pointer arrow sticking out of it. If it's illuminated, it means the pic you're viewing can be enlarged, so click on this box and the pic will EXPAND and open to its normal size.
