I acquired this rifle as a shooter. About 30 years ago I was lucky enough to meet a WWII Pacific Theater Vet that was looking for homes for his 4 Japanese rifles. I was looking for 6.5 to shoot and this rifle just jumped out as the one I wanted. It has a matching bolt but a ground Mum. My knowledge was pretty limited at the time but my guess was it would shoot well. It also was the nicest looking of the rifles. It still had dirt and debris stuck in the nooks and crannies. It also had nice musty smell. No cleaning rod in the butt stock. It shot real well, nice gentle rifle that became my Japanese Milsurp shooter. The sling is Chinese for a Type 38, I needed a sling. Over the years of shooting and cleaning it lost all of the field dirt and musty smell. She sat for the last 15 years and even almost got sold, I am glad I held onto her.
