    Anyone been scammed, hot problem,

Hi all, I just used my debit card yesterday online for the first time in a year, at Numrich, to make an online order. This morning my bank account has an unauthorized withdrawl against it. The name on the withdrawl is MyMovies, and the withdrawl was in euros, something I never use.
I contacted a company online of the same name who replied that their name is being used for a scam currently. It occurred to me that perhaps some other member here might have had mysterious withdrawls too and that we might have a Numrich transaction as the common point.
    Just asking, you never know.
This is NOT against Numrich, probably there's a virus somewhere sending out the CC numbers.
Any one else had a similar experience?
    thanks Roger

Bugger rog, you could have just given me a blank cheque to save me purchasing dirty movies at your expense.

My wife and I have a separate credit card we use for on-line purchases ONLY. It has a much smaller balance limit than our primary every day credit card, so if someone ever scams it, then we can limit losses, plus not lose the use of the main one while it gets sorted out. Most card companies permit two cards now, simply because of this.

I never use a debit card (essentially access to my bank account) on-line.

There was another similar problem with Bud's Gun Shop reported here a while back ...

Find out who did it, make them pay back everybody they scammed, DOUBLE (as per the Richard III bail law, 1483), THEN break all their fingers, THEN call the cops.

That would put a stop to it. Even a crooked lawyer and a bleeding-heart judge couldn't help them.

THEN sell them as thralls. CHATTEL slavery is illegal, immoral and disgusting; JUDICIAL slavery still is legal and it just might work.

    Nothing else seems to.

I guess there are good points about not having any plastic.

lol, I'm with you, lock stock and barrel ...

Its looking like the Numrich loop was not how it happened, so all clear folks, Numrich is AOK. Its looking like a security company that safeguards my paid email account has been hacked themselves and their data taken away.

I'm sold on the idea of a limited card for online work, good idea.

The likeliest thing that's happened is that your computer has a virus RJW - most of these things happen at source. Make sure all your anti virus is updated together with spyware stuff. For me I use two programs available freely AVG and Adaware and so far touch wood have emerged ok...(famous last words).

I have 2 visa debit cards -for just that reason. My info was stolen but- visa called me on the phone (before any of it got to the bank) to ask if I had bought "anything" in Bulgaria lately ($362) so the charges ar being watched a lot better now. This charge -as it turned out was from "WOW baby.com" (can't imagine what they market.) But then you have to close that account and wait 6 days for a new card and pin number. Thats why I got the second account. Sorry to hear about your experience, but know all about it the hard way.

RJW NZ, ypur post had me at my account's website to do a quick check of the abused old account, and found a charge to the credit card of US$16 some odd dollars that I couldn't reconcile in my little pea brain. Promptly closed the card! Only to slowly realize that the gibberish billing was the Indian restaurant's that I had visited the other day. (Would have paid cash, but the ATM was broken that morning.) Good grief!

Oh, well... Better safe than cleaned out.

This is unfortunately getting very common.

My bank contacted me a couple of months ago to check if I was buying goods in USA. I am in Australia.

They suspected that they were scam transactions but wanted my confirmation. Fortunately they picked it all up before it hit my bank account.

Interestingly, I just spent the last two weeks travelling in NZ from Auckland though to Christchurch, with a quick stop to view the Trials No 4 (T) at Waiouru. I used my cards extensively but was not contacted by the bank perhaps because it was with ANZ.

Got to say that NZ is such a great spot to holiday......can't understand why some many Kiwis jump the trench.

I can tell you why in one sentence; median income in NZ is $26,000 and the lowest median income in Australia is $57,000 in Tasmania, the top 1% income earners in NZ get $100,000 and the top 1% in Aus get $256,000 (in the US the top 1% earn $365,000) and everything costs the same here as there seeing as all our produce is priced to the world market now, a local apple sells to us at what it fetches on the world market, same across the board. This is a pretty country with a brutal economy.

I am more than a bit surprised how many of us have had this kind of issue.
