My first thread started here so I'm not entirely sure about posting pictures. I picked up a couple of very nice SVT 40's on the weekend.
Sent the better part of five hours cleaning cosmoline off them and discovered during reassembly that the trigger group is insanely difficult to reinstall. Does anyone on this board have any tips on making it easier?
Very pleased with the end result and both were brilliant shooters at the range yesterday.
mine's like that too. use a set of quick clamps or give it a good smak with the palm of your hand. hurts, but works.
Some won't go back together at all without the use of clamping tools. And mismatched rifles may have a whole host of problems unless previously fit up due to non-interchange of subassemblies such as trigger groups.
You sick puppy.!! Not one but two you rub our noses on!,,I'm So jealous.!! I want one so bad I can taste it but I'm not willing to part with 1k + for one in the states...
Skookumchuk: I believe the rear flat on the trigger group is only supposed to contact the spring however I have one that seemed to bottom out on the wood and which became easier to re-install after removal of a little wood. With my tight ones I re-install the trigger-group with the bolt/ cover removed by resting the flat top of the body on an upholstered stool and pressing down on the bottom of the trigger with the help of my body weight (it does come in handy at times!). With regard to sales of these things in Canada, one west coast dealer has a "Christmas Special" $200 SVT right now. I personally had the opportunity to pick through 2 new un-opened crates last week and selected 4, including a Kovrov/ Podolsk. However, given that these latest rifles are all re-furbs, I'm beginning to wonder about their collector value. Also, as shooters, many of these rifles don't appear to have received new barrels during the refurb (or were extensively shot post refurb/ pre importation, which seems unlikely).

WarPig1976, I'll see your jealousy and raise you envy. At least you can still get one for a price! What I wouldn't trade for the privilege of owning a snub-nose Smith & Wesson! Ridolpho, your talking about Lever Arms, that's where I picked up these two. I'm going to notch out a short piece of two by four that will just fit over the trigger guard so I can exert more force and try that. If it works I'll post up pics here. If it doesn't I'll try shaving a little wood out.
