Thanks Lee, that answers the question.
All the above info is really great, but is there any evidence that either the Englis factory or the Enfield factory took MKI receivers and machined them to become MK3 receivers? This is what the...
Per the discussion on the other forum this is the question we are trying to get answered.
I can only partially answer your question. On one of my .303 bolts I machined off about .015 and it was 'soft' at that depth.
Went to the auction today. The Bren drum mags went for over $5500.00 with buyers premium!!!
Also a fully transferable Mark II Bren went for $51,750.00.:yikes:
Mark I is finally finished and test fired. Runs real nice on .303 and I've converted one barrel and bolt to 7.62x54R also. I use the ZB39 magazines for the Russian rounds.
Making the strikers isn't too hard but is time consuming with all the cuts.
Made some extras just in case.
Milling machine speeds clean up tremendously.
Next is to machine the internals and make the striker.
Thanks for the comments, my kits have all been cut very nicely with no more than 1/4" gaps which allowed me to use backup bars with no fillers.
I would think the guys that have to do fillers have a...
Don't know about others but I use dye penetrant only. When you do the math on weld strength vs load at detonation the Bren is actually very lightly stressed. Speaks again to its superb design.
In...
Welding finished and about 90 percent of the final cleanup complete.
Brit,
The copper does not melt but serves as a back -up bar for good welding and also gives a smooth inside finish with reduced clean up. The bars are re-usable as well. I made the bars several...
The wood blocks are actually wedges that hold two upper copper bars tight against the receiver walls.
Thanks for the comments.
BTW both the carrier slot and the lower slot have already been welded approximately 1".
I stay compliant through the whole process.
Finally get to build my first Mark I Semi.
Its a 1941 Enfield serial #H7638.
I hope its not heresy, but strictly for comfort I made an adapter to allow stand up shooting.
The tripod is the German AA type that is still pretty inexpensive.

Thought I would post a picture of a few of my Brens :)
Peter, as you said I got a real good fit to the body with the locking shoulder and still have some slop in the screw hole.
Just put a full magazine (well 28 rounds) thru it and it ran really...
Thanks Peter,
Prior to your post I decided to try and mill the backside of the locking shoulder to preserve any hardening of contact surfaces.
Success! I now lock up on a .064 gauge and do not on a...
It fails to lock up with or without a .064 gauge. It is my 4th reweld but the only one with a problem. Heat shrinkage finally got me.
It's difficult to get a measurement that makes since, but here's...
Thanks WallyG. Ordered them today. Now to get that pesky screw loose.
Hello, I'm new to the forum but have been building for awhile now. I guess I've been lucky since I'm building my 4th Semi-Bren and have not had this problem before.
Too tight of a space between the...
