Thanks Steve. I may have to find an alternative method, maybe threaded inserts.
As some may remember ( and probably don't) I was starting a Kar98k WW2-Style Repro LSR Scope project. I got my scope, have a nice BNZ russian capture to put it on, but discovered that the receiver...
Awesome! I hope to find one of these thick-walled receivers someday.
Really cool! Sounds like you had a 'fun' restoration :beerchug:
The 'red stain' is the glue for the laminated stock. I once wondered what this was too, and tried in every method to remove the "red stain", until I realized the glue used in ww2 was (usually) red.
Well I've seen a few examples of specialty receivers as well. Perhaps both answers are correct.
So these mounts were designed for the standard kar98k and not for the real LSR reciever rifles?
I believe you'll not only need a cut stock but an extensively modified reciever (milling tapping and maybe some sort of metal addition)
trying to figure that out. I know the rifles in ww2 had...
How much milling was required for this project? Just a flat surface along the reciever and a groove correct?
I recently bought a new Kar98k, made in 1944, byf (if I recall correctly), and has a stock cut for the left side short rail scope. Supposedly, the whole thing is a vet bringback - but it is mostly...
I got some info from the guy, these scopes are clearly marked "Jena" instead of "Zeiss", due to being made in Jena in East Germany. So they are blatantly not trying to sell them as originals but as...
Okay guys, I know some of you would disagree with what I want to do, but I just want an opinion about the quality of the reproduction ZF39 scopes and mounts (the drill and tap kind, oh no!). I am...
Good post, the Germans did like a lot of other countries' stuff, like the British/American trucks in Africa, PPSHs in Russia, etc. They knew that salvaging was a good idea, if it was plausible. ...
Didnt mean to thank you for the post. Hah
I do not own a Mosin, I have a Kar98k, but the loading methods should be the same. When pushing down on the stripper rounds, push down with your thumb on...

I know its photoshopped, but funny to look at anyhow :)
I heard of shortened kar98ks somewhere before, but the only Mauser I could find in my book of Mausers that looks vaguely similar is one of the Greek knock-offs which is almost as short. But still...
Looks like romanian is still around, and Yugo seems to be also. I have bad experiences with Turk though.
Ah I understand. There appears to be no evidence that they have any other designations deeming them "reproduction".
Actually all the items on that page clearly state "reproduction"
Fairly cheap can range anywhere below a dollar per round, I am just wondering what surplus ammo people are getting nowadays. If I can hit a target at 100m, I consider that accurate enough to have...
I have been experimenting with ammo types for my 1941 Kar98k and have not been satisfied yet. I have used both Winchester and Remington 8mm mauser ammo and I am not sure if this is a good match for...
I own a 1941 RC Kar98k and have fired over 300 rounds with it using various rounds (both surplus and modern ammunition). The first time I ever used it hurt a bit, but since then I haven't had any...
