My guess is that it's beech wood.
I'm changing my initial perception on serial number 3445. Looking through my GCA Journal from Volume 23,Issue 4 ,Fall 2009 I came across an article by Bob Seijas on gas trap 1630 which he owns. There...
The three looks somewhat suspicious to say the least.
Great looking Garand with Italian lineage. All good.
Welcome from Crook County. Nice looking M1,love the wood.
I took my IHC out to check the description addressed above. Mine was a private purchase at an estate sale. It has the football shape on the bayonet lug, concentric circle and straight slots on the...
There is a IHC for sale on the CMP auction that ends tomorrow. There are great pictures of the IHC. One picture when enlarged shows the bottom of the gas cylinder. It shows a taper at the front of...
We were trained and drilled constantly in riot control and the legality on the use of deadly force. In two full scale riots and one Democratic Convention not one round was fired by my unit. We did...
I've always figured from the forums a SA Gas Cylinder had either a punch mark and/or a letter stamped on the bayonet lug or a letter stamped on the barrel ring. Most of my WW2 Garands have these...
That M1 one looks familiar.

Many of the elevation pinions and windage knobs were made by subcontractors. Those that I have mostly seen are NHC and DRC that are correct for early postwar SA Garands.
Which makers do you need?
I received from CMP a SA 3,741,112, May 45 Garand with a 12-43 SA barrel that's in the white. Was it a rebuild or SA using up their barrel supply with the war in Europe being over or first in last...
In some of the books I have read about WW2 Europe it was not uncommon for either side to use battlefield pickups from the opposing side. This included tanks, jeeps and trucks.
Weatherhead a subcontractor for SA postwar.
The partial outline of the circle is there in the picture.
Coneten, I've got you 5.8' s brother,5869326. It came from CMP as a Service Grade around six years ago. It is totally correct as received from the information available.

I received my first Garand in January 2000. It was a Select Grade and cost $550+shipping. It was ordered in February 1999.
