Rdavis I think if you go to Vishooters as Rick suggests you will find a wealth of info like i did. You will also find your rifle was actually built arounf Novermber 1943 based on the best estimates....
I think the odds of finding a correct std pro with the correct inland stock might be about same as winning the lottery. But I must admit to having thought about it. Fun thought. Gives me something to...
Thanks for the post Crossedcannons. It really helped clarify just hope I interpreted it right.
As you can see from the pic below I am pretty sure I have a type 2 slide and not the type II/IV...
Thought I might share my other carbine and its story with the group.
I purchased this 17 years ago from a kid who was trying to sell it at a gunshop I frequented. The kid told us a dealer...
I agree on that. Sure would be good to know before I waste lots of time using the copy I am getting from library and certainly before I lay down hard cash for a copy. Both cash and time are too hard...
I too have been watching the Pacific. I also observed the 03A3's and although disappointed, I am far happier they are doing the job they are in telling the story that I find it totally forgivable....
Hooks I will let you and wulf debate merits of the 6th edition as I read your earlier thread and other member comments there. I am far too ignorant on the topic being a newbie to have any opinion...
I have a similar cartouche on a S-HB stock and handguard combo that look new on a similar barely used Inland 290XXX that I picked up 17 years ago off a kid who said it was his grandfathers from ww 2....
Very talented young man. Loved all three sets. Was especially nice to hear tunes from my era played well. Thanks for that link rustship. :super:
And spoiling grandkids is a requirment. I call...
Love to see new shooters. Way to go granddad. Excellent post. Only a few more years till I can start with my gand kids.
With little help from a member on the CMP forum I have found that my barrel may very well be original to the receiver. Apparently std pro. used the free barrel program and the stamping I displayed...
Inland44 and imarangemaster I intend to leave it as is. Your points are well taken. I think it is way cooler to have a carbine that was in active service enough to require rebuilding then one that...
Thanks to each of you for making me dig a bit more and clean harder. There were added marks on the slide so posting pics below.
Also, found added mark on the barrel s with grenade by the piston...
Where do I need to be looking. My other had all its markings inside of the slide. Also I found an SG stamped on the recoil plate sorry I missed it earlier but it was very faint
Throw my vote in for Springfield Armory. I bought my first in 1984. A standard which I sent back and had upgraded to a national match and later upgraded to a super match barreled kreiger after...
I find these posts extremely interesting as my father was a WWII areial gunner on a 20 mm cannon. He told me the story of how he ended up a gunner. Seems that after Great Lakes boot camp he was...
If my memory serves me correctly when I purchased my first M1A back in 1984 we had the option on the standard grade rifle. The options were GI wood, GI Fiberglass, or New Walnut. This was common for...
I aquired this carbine 10 yrs ago from a co-worker who was moving to Chicago and didn't want the hassles of owning it there. He had been willed it when his dad had passed away and wasn't much into...
Couple of added pictures for those who PMed me. Thanks for the comments and hope these answer the questions.
I totally concur with prior posters on Krieger barrel's as the way to go. I have them on all my match rifles ar15, M1A super match's and Garand's. They are worth the price in both accuracy and...
It strips the first round perfectly and fails to feed up the second.
Just to clarify the malfunction occurs with m2 Ball and with reloads to garand specs on 150 and 165 grain bullet loads. Yet with any brand of 180 grain factory ammo it works correctly. I think my...
Hi
Need some help! A freind has a Winchester that will fire the first round missfeed and not load the second round of the 8 round clip. If you cycle the bolt by hand it will run out the...
I checked with the Remington Collector Society posting for 1903a3 on our forum site and it indicates a receiver date of aproximatly October of 1943. I beleive would correspond with the barrel dated...
