Beautiful rifle Sapper. Mine very obviously was not someone’s prized possession, but that may have been its saving grace too. And it shoots like a house on fire. Took a guess at a load yesterday and...

Mine shoots cci shorts quite well. Its all ive ever shot out of it.
I'd love to do that. 05-R's are my favorite Ross. I like the Military rifles based on the 05 action too. If Altadiver gets the nosecaps built for the military rifles then it will be a viable venture...
Got the gearing figured out on my lathe. I'm now cutting 3 TPI.
The 3TPI thread I don't think is that huge of problem. A few gearing calculations and building a proper double reduction set up for a manual change gear lathe should have it in business. I will join...
Looking forward to doing something new as well, definitely.
Everything is possible Browning. I'll have more free time in coming months here so the possibility of getting caught up on current orders is there. Stay in touch!
Here's the dovetailed fore end splice i've mentioned in another post.
I have a 12x36 Clausing lathe designed for use in both wood and metal. This lathe runs an extremely high spindle speed in wood...
I'll try to remember to in the coming weeks
Ray, I'm pretty sure the first MkIII I had was one of the Royal Marines rifles that was sold off to a commercial sporterized. 26" barrel with a nice crown, nicely cropped fore end, and checkering...
I've been nursing a bolt head with a cracked lug for over a year now. I've been watching it closely for signs of further cracking. While it hasn't become worse, the damage is still there...
I have...
The bolt stop problem is quite real, but in my mind's eye it could have been easily solved. Instead of having Evelyn spaced mega overkill number of lugs, he simply could have made the left rear two...
If it's an 05 there is no need to worry, it's the 1910 actions that can be assembled incorrectly.
I got really lucky and found an original.
This is the kind of knowledge I'm really lacking Mr E. I understood that certain cuts will produce a much prettier stock but I hadn't given much thought...
Just finishing up restoring my Ross MkIII. I picked this one up last spring and have been gathering the few missing bits and pieces and trying to find time to build a new stock in some nice walnut...
It's a factory sporter for sure. A few overall photos would tell us which one definitively
If it is just on the surface you can preserve the original finish by dry rubbing the mold off with 0000 steel wool. I did this on my MkI* Ross restoration elsewhere on this site
Beauty. Hopefully one of these days the planets will align, until then I can still dream about owning one like this!
To add to Seaspriter's comment, a trick a gifted machinist taught me was to heat the surrounding metal as suggested, but then drip candle wax on it. It should be hot enough for the wax to slightly...
Nose caps have been reproduced in plastic now. Steel ones are coming. Yes, I've been quite busy, but unfortunately it's been with working away from home for long periods of time. The stock orders are...
Well, few years in the making but I'm happy with the results. In TRRS there is a photo of a MkI with a MkII rifle's nosecap. Legitimate enough for the Good Book then its good enough for me, so I...
Where are you located Mike? I'm pretty sure I have a few. PM me, I don't check back here very often.
What Martin suggests is exactly what I've done in the past, works well!
