Painter777,
Thanks for your detailed reply and advice.
Part of what I was after in my question was whether this is an "unfinished" stock and would have further processing before issue or...
I bought this NOS stock several years ago for my Inland carbine. Wood is great but seems dry. Should this be finished with BLO to preserve and prevent staining or better to leave as is.
Agree on grips because mine are original to gun and don't want to damage them. Should be able to pick up something reasonable at a gunshow.
The first target is 5 shots at 15 yards. 200 Grain Berry's plated SWC with 6 grains Unique.
Couldn't duplicate with my remaining identical loads, but that was an encouraging first 5 shots with the...
Great. You made my day Jim. All matching. I am stoked to finally have one of these.
Bought an S&W M1917 today. Good overall condition. Main condition issue is some freckling on left side of barrel and top of frame. But happy with overall condition.
Frame, barrel and cylinder...
Milsurp attachment manager insisted on turning my pic when I uploaded it. Rounds are actually at six o'clock, almost dead on point at of aim at 50 yards.
Update
Shot the Wolf 174 Grain ammo in my other No4 Mk1 yesterday and P14. Both shot the ammo fine. Pointy end through target first.
So my conclusion is that this ammo is acceptable for 4...
Brian - I agree that "mint" may not be the proper term. After all the rifle has been shot at least a few times by me and the prior owner. My point is that it appears to have came into the country...
Update
I pulled one of the Wolf bullets that keyholed.
It measured .310 to .3105 and is a boattail design
I also pulled a Herters bullet that shot well.
It measures .311 and is a flat base...
I shot my 43 LB with some 174 gr Wolf ammo yesterday and 7 of 7 rounds keyholed. Shooting was at 50 yards. The rifle is in as new condition save a few dings in the stock. Mint bore. 150 gr...
Pretty well set on bullets now. Like Randy, I have way more in components now than rifle. I think I have more (400-500) bullets than I will likely shoot.
Buffalo Arms recently had a batch of...
When I shot my Gew 88 Saturday I had a misfire with a Remington round. Primer struck twice, but no ignition. Pulled the bullet Sunday. Bullen measured .322 at its base.
When I had measured...
Shot the rifle today with a few Remington rounds I had. This was from 50 yards. I'll take the blame for the vertical dispersion. Happy with the old gun.
Took the sleeve off the barrel today. Sleeve has barely hand tight. So removed it to inspect inside and barrel. No corrosion insider or out. Lots of cosmoline. Didn't seem any reason to remove...
Have opportunity to purchase this Turk Gew 88 from a friend.
Steyr 1890
Other than barrel matching receiver, gun is a mix-master.
Bolt is self matching Turk
Metal other than bolt is sort of a...
I shot the rifle again yesterday. Used a larger paster so I could see it better. That's four shots at 50 yards. I used stretch wrap around a couple of places on the stock to stabilize the sling so...
Fear not, I will not molest it. The rust was a thing in the past. Gun has a fairly even dark patina where there was rust or else it is the original blue.
Arisaka day at the range. Shot it today...
Purchased Type 99 recently.
Principal attraction of this particular gun is its completeness and relatively good condition.
As far as I can tell it's a series 1 Nagoya. So early production Type...
Had a gunsmith slug it. .312
Only shot out to 70 yards, but it liked the milsurp silver tip ammo
FYI
This morning Liberty Tree Collectors had pulled ball 7.35 Carcano bullets available.
Selling in lots of 100 for $39. Site says "several lots available"
Look in the "New Arrivals" tab.

Aragorn,
In the 7.62x54R website they show this as a sight configuration for an M28. Picture not great, but seems to match my gun. I'll see when the new sight blade I bought on EBay is delivered...

Thanks Aragorn. I saw that but wasn't sure.
